RARE DISEASES INTERNATIONAL supports #WorldCancerDay taking the opportunity to remind that 1 in 5 cancers is rare. Rare cancers account for about 25–30% of all cancer diagnoses and 25% of cancer deaths. Despite the high collective occurrence of rare cancers, basic biological and clinical knowledge about them is lacking.  For many patients with a rare cancer, the lack of effective clinical management before and after diagnosis translates into a suboptimal clinical outcome; on average, patients with rare cancers have worse outcomes, with estimated average 5-year relative survival rates of 47% for patients with rare cancers versus 65% for those with common cancers (Gatta et al., 2011). ✅Good morning! Good news! Over the years I've been developing the platform I've had countless struggles that have changed my views on why I do what I do. But always only one reason did not change - the smile on the faces of the cured. In the picture is little Irene, who is fighting a severe cancer. Or more precisely, he "struggled"! Irene is in remission. ❤️❤️❤️ For news like this, I keep doing it. It's worth it! And another great news, for which I leave a link in the comments.

Yesterday was #WorldCancerDay, a moment to reflect on the global impact of cancer. Did you know that 1 in 5 people with cancer have a rare cancer? Rare cancers make up about 25–30% of all cancer diagnoses and 25% of cancer-related deaths. Despite their prevalence, rare cancers face a significant challenge - a lack of basic biological and clinical knowledge. This knowledge gap often translates into suboptimal clinical outcomes for patients. On average, individuals with rare cancers have a 5-year relative survival rate of 47%, compared to 65% for those with more common cancers (Gatta et al., 2011). It's crucial to raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by those with rare cancers. Advocacy, research, and support can bridge the gaps in understanding and improve outcomes for these patients. We will try our best to help those communications especially as I have a personal family conneciton to these rare cancers!
