Methane leaks should be an easy, obvious and cheap way of massively reduce air pollution and climate change without having to change industry or consumption, since its pure waste reduction. Fast way to get the incetives right is a methane tax implemented globally, however no need to wait for anyone else, in goverment, EU or least of all COP to agree on it. Beauty of taxes on negative externalities is everyone wins. Well except the polluters in the short run perhaps. #Plugit!

Carbon dioxide and methane are both odourless gases that cannot be seen by naked eyes. Methane gas is naturally odourless, which makes detecting leaks difficult using smell alone. This presents a significant safety risk, as methane is highly flammable and can be explosive when mixed with air in certain concentrations. Methane is being used for home heating and cooking. To mitigate this risk, manufacturers are required to add a distinctive scent to methane — commonly a sulfur-like odour from a compound called mercaptan. This odourization helps individuals detect even small leaks quickly and take appropriate actions to prevent accidents or explosions. This practice enhances safety in residential, commercial, and industrial environments where methane gas is used.

These kind of events won't stop until we transition away from methane gas. REMEMBER: Satellites only detect emissions happening in the area they are flying over. Monitoring stops no emissions.

Another day, another excuse for oil and gas companies to leave their trash in Australia’s oceans. Known as carbon capture and storage, or CCS, burying fossil fuel waste underwater is not a proven or effective approach for reducing carbon emissions—and it’s certainly not a good enough reason for fossil fuel giants to indefinitely delay removing their decaying infrastructure from the ocean. Disused offshore oil and gas structures can rupture, leak and decay, causing chemicals including oil, gas condensate, heavy metals and radioactive material to spread into the ocean. The longer the clean up is delayed, the worse these risks will become. Marine life, including kelp forests, whale nurseries, and sea lion colonies, are at risk.
