Business Development Director - Leading on growth for complex sales opportunities. Miller Heiman Coach - Shipley Strategy - Trusted Advisor
There will be many in my network who disagree with quotas. I do not like them either. The right person for the job should be the one with the skills, experience, culture etc etc.... This is about creating opportunity and improving diversity, allowing people to experience our working environment, culture and business sector. It fosters valuable opportunities for aspiring professionals from black backgrounds. I am sure they will excel and become part of the Amey family. If not, we have given them an opportunity they may not have normally had. I come from from a background where I recognise the need for initiatives like this. If you do not agree with this, then we agree to disagree #diversityandinclusion
We are incredibly excited to welcome 12 individuals into our business this summer through the 10,000 Black Interns programme! They will be working with a range of teams within the business and will get insight into a range of careers including engineering, consulting and project management. They will also participate in a series of personal development modules. We can't wait to see what they can achieve during their time with us! HIGH TURNOVER GOT YOU DOWN? There’s hope in sight. This week, Dr. Troy sat down with Mike Lawson while at the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) World Credit Union Conference in Vancouver to offer his perspective why cohesion and not engagement can retain your top talent. For immediate relief, consider implementing these no-cost Cohesion Infusion Cheat Codes: - #23: Create an internal mentoring program to develop talent. It takes one dedicated mentor per person offering one-hour of structured conversation on a bi-weekly basis for at least 6-months. - #3: Set up an Organizational Internship (OI) that allows high performers to shadow employees in areas where the high performer has an interest. An OI program supports meaningful work, promotes better cross-functional outcomes, and fosters teamwork. One hour per week for 6-weeks. Then conduct a 1-hour debrief of the experience. Listen to the full broadcast using the link in the comments. #cohesionculture #leadership #employeeretention #drtroyhall #wcuc2023

“The postings for Dow apprenticeships go up between January and March. If you see us at any hiring event, we’ll have a QR code. You can scan the QR code and put your information in so when I go to post that job in January through March, I can hit your contact information and say, ‘Hey, remember we met back in September? We’re now interested in posting roles for millwrights.’ or whatever the roles might be. Then March through May, we screen resumes to identify who we’re going to bring in for the interview process. The goal is to start the new group of apprentices in July so that they’re in the plant for a month and a half, get familiar with their mentors, get familiar and comfortable with the environment before they head off to school in the fall. If you go through this phase and didn’t get an interview but still want to be a part of Dow’s apprenticeship programs, what should you do next? If you go into the skilled trades department at Delta, they have all of our programs right there. Delta has everything. They have a whole department that’ll speak to skilled trades, and that helps all the companies in the Great Lakes Bay Region. You can see what classes that you have to take if you are part of the apprenticeship program, and you can proactively take them and when you apply again, you’ve got a head start. By the time you get in front of me for the interview, you’re already a step ahead. Now you’re not in school for three years—you might only be in school for a year and then you’re off full-time to your apprenticeship learning. I had a candidate follow me to two different career events. He introduced himself and said, ‘I’m taking the classes.’ The posting was down before he had a chance to apply, but he went into Delta, got enrolled, and started taking the classes he needed. That’s that persistence it takes sometimes to stay in front of employers. If you really want it and show that desire, it’s a win-win for both of us.” – Robert Guerra, Early Career Site Development Leader, Dow #heybaycity #baycity #baycitymichigan #michiganjob #michigancareers #baycounty #baycountymichigan #youngprofessional #intern
