AI Breakthrough: DeepMind's FunSearch Model Tackles Decades-Old Math Puzzle DeepMind's AI, using the FunSearch model, has cracked a decades-old math puzzle known as the CapSet problem. This problem involves arranging dots on a page without forming a straight line of three. FunSearch discovered new, larger constructions for CapSets, surpassing previous solutions. While it didn't completely solve the problem, this marks the first time an AI has made a novel scientific discovery. This breakthrough highlights the potential of AI to contribute to scientific advancements, opening doors to future innovations.

The future is now, but are we fooling ourselves? 🤔 This past week, OGroupLLC was invited to the cutting-edge event: Hudson Forum, organized by Qognitive started by Dario Villani and IBM. The event was attended by leading minds in quantum computing, AI, and gene editing –reshaping our world. Truly one of the most inspirational events. More specifically, Yann LeCun's talk made me think: Are we drunk on our own hype? Particularly in lieu of recent claim by OpenAI founder Sam Altman that AI is starting to "reason like us". This forum put everything in perspective. ❗️ Reality Check: "AI reasons like us" – An extraordinary claim needing extraordinary proof o1 (chatgpt's new model) and its ilk? New tricks, same dog Challenge: Ask AI to deconstruct a Stanford philosophy paper. Spoiler: It can't. We're not just missing the mark; we're aiming at the wrong target. True AI isn't about mimicking human parlor tricks. It's about cracking the code of consciousness, perception, and abstract thinking. The real revolution? It's in the questions we're not asking, the disciplines we're not connecting. From neuroscience to philosophy, the path to real AI is a labyrinth we've barely entered and where forums like Hudson Forum are critical. No doubt, AI will change everything... I picked this from a newsletter that I subscribe to. Accurate piece of information, at the most. Especially when prior-art searches hit the rock bottom. What guarantees a good return on investment is - judging the weightage of leads, before proceeding. This is how a researcher's hunch develops. For example - If we pick the tricky cases, where AI fails to be the one-stop shop - we perform preliminary semantic searches, or AI-based searches, to find a plethora of leads or 103-type art. Too many leads, too many directions. Tracking everything, all at once is futile. On the other hand, there are directed manual searches - which does not cause information overload. Recently, we were to find a feature related to implementation of neural networks in a video encoder sub-block. Instead of relying on sporadic exploration, we explored the ad-hoc JVET meetings, specific to the date. Since, JVET is the working team for VVC (H.266) and its successor (H. 267) Looked into meetings where NNVC was discussed, and NN performance was compared at different levels of implementation. Since we already had the idea about the top contributing inventors and assignees - we picked up the outliers. And this led us to find the required feature.
