Great to join the AI Global Forum and the AI Seoul Summit, co-hosted by the UK and Korea in Seoul, highlighting the importance of international cooperation to ensure safety and innovation of AI. Insights taken from keynote address were that policy makers need to closely work with the industry and experts to better understand rapidly developing AI technology and its benefits & risks. Andrew Ng, Managing General Partner of AI Fund, suggested governments to differentiate applications from technology to apply regulations. This would require acute awareness and comprehensive understanding of AI ecosystem, that can be only supported by close public-private cooperation. I expect such efforts to be boosted by the works of AI Safety Institutes already established and planned to be established in various countries and look forward to their endeavors in addressing tricky balance of safety and technical innovation. #aisafetysummit #aiglobalforum #aiseoulsummit

AI standardisation is a key competitive arena in the global AI race, with 🇨🇳 China aiming to shape rather than follow norms. As international AI standardisation evolves, with the 🇺🇸 US and 🇨🇳 China exploring new frameworks and existing multilateral ones losing influence, China's approach is distinctively enterprise-led and state-guided. The Chinese state plays a dynamic role, collaborating closely with the corporate sector throughout the AI standardisation process. For European policymakers, understanding this shifting landscape is crucial to maintaining competitiveness, upholding European values, and participating in global AI governance discussions.

Building inclusive, collaborative standards for AI is necessary to ensuring this technology moves us closer to the UN's #SDGs. The International Telecommunication Union's Frederic Werner showed us how #AIforGood is creating the necessary networks to do that on a global scale. #UNIrisingtogether

⏩ Pathways Forward: AI Governance Day Wrap Up Tomas Lamanauskas of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) concluded Day Zero of the #AIforGood Global Summit with this summary of 🔢 clear themes that had emerged. 1️⃣ Responsible frameworks matter. We need to tie AI very closely to ethics and human rights. 2️⃣ People want interoperability among technology platforms so smaller providers and players can also participate. It’s not always possible to have a one regulatory approach, but the approaches need to be interoperable. 3️⃣ We need technical standards to keep AI working for the good of humanity. Leverage AI to bridge digital divides and ensure we don’t create new ones. 4️⃣ Global solidarity and resource sharing, like high performance computing or other resources, can help us achieve our AI goals of managing risks while leaving no one behind. The Global Digital Compact, a comprehensive framework for global governance of #technology and artificial intelligence #AI, charts a roadmap for global digital cooperation to harness the immense potential of digital technology and close digital divides. The Compact recognizes the critical contributions of the private sector, technical communities, researchers and civil society to digital cooperation.
