According to GARTNER; AI Trust, Risk, and Security Management (AI TRiSM)
Comes at the top of strategic technological strategic trends for 2024, which is a comprehensive framework designed to ensure that AI systems are trustworthy, secure, and compliant with regulations.
Allowing organizations better manage the risks associated with AI, but remains the complexity, continues monitoring and skilled professionals to manage and implement AI TRiSM effectively, as the main challenges for 2024 and onward for short-term basis at least.

In terms of ITES and its scope under the outsourcing industry, AI is undeniably transforming the BPO landscape. In my 16 years in the industry, I've witnessed firsthand the shift from basic process outsourcing to more complex, knowledge-based work. AI is now accelerating this evolution, automating tasks previously thought to be the exclusive domain of human workers.
There really is a need for robust AI governance frameworks. Without them, organizations risk falling prey to significant ethical, legal, and operational challenges:
Accountability and Transparency: AI decision-making can be opaque. Clear governance frameworks are essential to ensure we understand how AI arrives at its conclusions, especially in sensitive areas like customer service, HR, and finance. This transparency is crucial for identifying and mitigating bias, errors, and potential harm.
Ethical Considerations: AI bias is a real concern, think: AI hallucinations and other forms of biases can permeate these as well. If trained on biased data, AI systems can perpetuate and even amplify existing societal inequalities. Governance frameworks must prioritize fairness, inclusivity, and the prevention of discrimination.
Privacy and Security: There's no question that we in the BPO industry handle sensitive personal data. AI governance must address data privacy, ensuring compliance with regulations like GDPR and CCPA. It also needs to safeguard against malicious use of AI for data breaches or manipulation.
Human-in-the-Loop: Then there's the importance of human oversight. While AI can automate many tasks, human judgment remains vital for complex decisions, ethical considerations, and handling exceptions. Governance frameworks should define the appropriate balance between AI and human involvement.
The BPO industry must proactively address these challenges. This includes:
Investing in AI ethics training: Equipping our workforce with the knowledge and skills to develop, deploy, and manage AI responsibly.
Establishing clear lines of accountability: Defining who is responsible for AI decisions and outcomes.
Promoting transparency and explainability: Ensuring AI systems are understandable and their decisions can be traced and justified.
Collaborating with stakeholders: Working with clients, regulators, and technology providers to develop industry best practices and standards.
AI presents a tremendous opportunity for the BPO industry to increase efficiency, improve quality, and offer new, higher-value services. But to fully realize this potential, we need to address the ethical and governance challenges head-on. This LinkedIn post serves as a timely reminder of this critical responsibility.

On 1st August 2024, the European Union set a groundbreaking precedent with the launch of the EU AI Act, the world’s first comprehensive regulation governing artificial intelligence based on risk levels.
Here’s what you need to know:
🔹 Risk Levels: The Act categorises AI systems into three risk categories:
1. Unacceptable Risk: Banned (e.g. social scoring systems akin to China’s).
2. High-Risk: Strict regulations (e.g. automated CV-screening tools).
3. Low-Risk: Lighter regulation, promoting innovation while ensuring safety.
🔹 Business Impact: Companies now face new compliance requirements including transparency, accountability, and robust cybersecurity measures.

💡 CIPL Spotlight 2024: Building Accountable AI Programs: Mapping Emerging Best Practices to the CIPL Accountability Framework
In February, we published our report ‘Building Accountable AI Programs: Mapping Emerging Best Practices to the CIPL Accountability Framework’.
The report showcases how 20 leading organizations are developing accountable AI programs and best practices on the ground. Our research shows that organizational accountability is fundamental to the responsible development and deployment of AI. Organizations recognize the need to demonstrate AI accountability as a business imperative, especially as the expectations of consumers, business partners, shareholders, and regulators continue to grow. They also recognize that AI governance works best when it leverages knowledge from other disciplines, including data protection, information security, human rights, cybersecurity, and more.
Our paper’s findings capture the early stages and emerging best practices in creating accountable AI programs. These best practices will continue to evolve as organizations assess and update their programs against developing technology, industry standards, and a growing body of regulatory and co-regulatory requirements.
