How I Became a Winter Bicycle Rider in Riga (and Why You Should Too) I’ve always enjoyed cycling, but I never thought I would do it in winter. That changed when a new bicycle road was launched in Riga near my home in February this year. I decided to give it a try and see how it would affect my health, mood, and productivity. According to research, cycling in winter can boost your immune system, improve your mood, and save you money and time. In fact, cycling can burn up to 500 calories per hour (for me it is only 10 minutes ride) and reduce your carbon footprint by 75% compared to driving (that is important if you work in worlds most sustainable IT company) Here are some of the benefits I’ve experienced from cycling in winter: I feel more energized and alert in the morning I save money on gas, parking, and public transport. I get to enjoy the beautiful scenery and fresh air. I reduce stress and anxiety by exercising and meditating Of course, cycling in winter also comes with some challenges, such as cold weather, snow and ice, and sometimes it is not faster than car. But with the right gear, tips, and attitude, I’ve learned to overcome them and enjoy the ride. But looking that in Netherlands and other countries you even get paid for it, that is amazing. Would add one extra benefit in my list, anyways I save money and most importantly time not sitting in traffic jams, but freezing on my bike instead :) p.s. there are days when I use a car of course

This may be a pipe dream and unrealistic for Canada but with my the family in Netherland's I know the benefits are far reaching for mental, physical, environmental and fiscal health. Would be amazing to see bikes as a part of the compensation package. #healthylifestyle #commuters #employeebenefits #compensationstrategy

If countries can put up the necessary infrastructure and policies that support the use bicycles and other non-motorized transport, may be a game changer and a more realistic CLIMATE CHANGE mitigation action instead of a myriad of international conferences which are avenues for gobbling up scarce resources especially for poor countries and whose resolutions just end up as just that - RESOLUTIONS! #climatechange #cop28
