#EcoDictionary: Some scientific breakthroughs involve more than just scientists: ordinary people can also contribute. It’s called #CitizenScience and it’s a collaborative journey where people from diverse backgrounds actively engage in research, lending brainpower, knowledge, and resources. Citizen Science can involve a range of activities by different people from all walks of life, from global virtual exchanges to local initiatives. There’s no one definition of Citizen Science: it’s a dynamic spectrum of people and activities. Through methods like app-based data collection, surveys, or participatory experiments, people contribute to valuable research and progress, benefiting communities worldwide. This inclusive approach enhances interactions between science, society, and policy, fostering democratic, evidence-based decision-making. Let's shape a sustainable future together! 🌍🔬#ClimateAction

📣 WORLDING is back! 🌍 WORLDING ignites the co-creation of climate future stories that lead to real-world impact. Founded in 2021, this research and incubation initiative bridges storytelling in virtual environments with community wisdom and land-based placemaking. This year, WORLDING will convene at MIT for an in-person incubator rooted in: - Social XR - Data visualization - Indigenous-led storytelling By weaving together documentary, game engine technology, land-use planning, and climate science, WORLDING inspires real-world impact. WORLDING acknowledges Indigenous ways of knowing as vital to motivating the co-creation of our collective, just and thriving climate future. Indigenous-led projects and perspectives are at the core of the WORLDING. Beyond inclusion, Indigenous storytellers are foundational and guide the work that must be done when imagining a just and thriving climate future. 🌊 More exciting announcements coming soon. 🌱 WORLDING 2025 is a project of Co-Creation Studio at MIT Open Documentary Lab, in collaboration with Indigenous Screen Office, and MIT Media Lab, with generous support from Agog Immersive Institute, MacArthur Foundation, and Just Films at Ford Foundation. Today we had the honor of attending the official launch of NaturaTech LAC, an amazing collaborative platform initiated by IDB Lab, Future of Earth and C Minds, for "Conservation rooted in Purposeful Technology, Wisdom and Collective Action". We truly believe this kind of efforts are the breakthrough initiatives we need for the planet, and we hope this can be replicated around the world. Congratulations to Irene Arias Hofman, CFA and all IDB Lab team!!! From the technology standpoint, and deeply related to our work at ARCHE, we want to highlight the following ideas from the "Technology with Purpose for Biodiversity" panel: From Jean-Michel Baudoin at IDB, the view that technology has a role to play in biodiversity and NBSs, and a clear way to show this is with the need to measure something in order to be able to improve it. Lot of efforts are being done with GIS, satellite imagery, IoT and AI to help identify and track biodiversity efforts. From Yves Lesenfants at IDB, the amazing job was done and is progressing applying technology to the Amazona in Brazil, in order to help local communities to control and act in terms of biodiversity. From Maria Paula Duque from Microsoft about the (we would said) almost unseeing hard work that MS is doing putting together platforms, information, AI algorithms and technological solutions for the world sustainability and biodiversity efforts. From Victor Galaz from the Stockholm Resilience Centre about the role of technology to promote diversity and ultimately resiliency, the ethical and moral use of data, as well as the need of more "market pull" solutions rather than "technology push". Also the need of much more evidence-based decision making processes such as theory of change and impact KPIs. We endorse those ideas, and consider this is a big step forward!!! 🍕🍕🍕 Climate Tech & Pizza Vol. III - you can't spell climate without AI. 👾 When? 23 October Where Techspace Kreuzberg in Berlin AI is revolutionizing climate tech approaches. It aids in tracking icebergs, mapping deforestation, improving agriculture, and boosting recycling. AI helps us to better understand the massive problems and also to sketch out new solutions. A good example is materials science: “AI-powered materials design will impact not only magnetics but also the entire field of materials science", says Jonathan Bean, CEO and co-founder of Materials Nexus from Carbon13’s Cohort 1 of the Ventue Builder programme. Materials Nexus' AI platform has recently completed the design and creation of a new rare-earth-free permanent magnet. In the third edition of #Climate #Tech and #Pizza, we look at the new doors that AI is opening in climate tech, the significant energy costs for servers, as well as the big question of where ai actually begins and where conventional computing ends. Oh, and there is pizza! We are delighted with these fantastic speakers. Dr. Katharine Shapcott, CTO VoltVogel Fabian Krautwurst, Principal at World Fund Leonardo Nunes Ricucci, Investment Associate at ProVeg Incubator Aurianne Legris, ClimateTech & DeepTech investor Honda Xcelerator Ventures Filip Valusiak, Head of Operations Techspace We would be delighted to have you too. Are you with us?
