The mental act of translating contours and symbols on a map into a vision in your mind, placing yourself on and in the terrain, not only helps you navigate, but helps you to develop your ability to understand.
Simply following a GPS will get you from point A to B, but there is no development of your mind or appreciation for the journey along the way. Developing your ability to visualize where you are, where you intent to go, and what you desire to achieve is what ROTC is all about.
Everything you learn at Cadet Command has a larger purpose and meaning than it appears on the surface. Both for your personal development and our ability to assess your potential for leading our Soldiers. Never question the what, always consider the why. The why is almost assuredly to make you a better person and leader.
