It is fantastic to see the energy for sustainable innovation for one of the Isle of Man's biggest industries! ✨ It was so encouraging to come together with stakeholders both at the Sustainable Finance Symposium last month (take a look at the highlights below!) and just last week at the Deloitte Climate Collective forum with Charlotte Lewis, Dominic Wall and Greg Easton. Here are a few of our takeaways from the discussions and from Finance Isle of Man's Sustainable Finance Roadmap ⬇️ 1) Sustainable finance is a huge opportunity for the Isle of Man to lead in a changing landscape; 2) There are big challenges over measurement of environmental impacts in investment portfolios... and big opportunities for those offering solutions to that challenge; 3) We're delighted that training is right there in the core pillars of the Sustainable Finance Roadmap. We're looking forward to upcoming discussions over how we can help catalyse sustainability readiness in the finance sector. ✉️ If you're looking for sustainability training and transformation, get in touch! ✉️ https://earthscope.im/

It was a pleasure to participate in the event “Unlocking Sustainable Finance: Navigating Internal Conversations,” hosted by The Carbon Trust, with the participation of Michael Rea, Pietro R., Adelene Anthony, Sylvie Sasaki, and moderated by Daniela Cardenas Semenova. I would like to share some of my takeaways: 📌 The first step is to demonstrate that sustainable finance adds value to the business. This requires being an entrepreneur within the company. With a business plan in hand, you need to sell the idea to all stakeholders. Start at the top. 📌 Secondly, it is essential to identify indicators that are both realistic to gather together and ones that can demonstrate progress. Company collaboration is key, particularly between the sustainability and finance teams. 📌 Finally, financial institutions, and organisations like the Carbon Trust can help companies navigate the endless definitions and hurdles to secure sustainable financing. Involving your leadership team in these conversations may be necessary! At Telefónica, we are proud to have issued the first green bond in the telecom sector in 2019, and we are committed to having around 40% of our total financing linked to ESG criteria by 2026. On the equity side, we are seeing a steady growth of ESG-oriented investors taking positions in Telefónica. We are convinced that sustainable finance brings value to the business and we are tapping into that value.
Yesterday we held a webinar exploring sustainable finance and how to navigate internal conversations to highlight and unlock its benefits. Carbon Trust experts Daniela Cardenas Semenova, Pietro R., Timothy Mew, and Digby Walker were joined by Catherine Bohill from Telefonica, Sylvie Sasaki from Aviva Investors, and Adelene Anthony from Axiata. They discussed the barriers, challenges, and solutions to unlocking sustainable finance. These were some of the insights: 🤝 Internal buy-in, especially from senior management, is key for driving meaningful change, supported by robust systems and processes 📉 High-quality data collection is critical for building strong sustainable finance strategies 🎯 Setting ambitious KPIs, even if not fully met, can lead to valuable learning experiences, and can drive progress in achieving your sustainability targets You can watch the webinar here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eRGkK7CV
