📢 Report Release: "The Participation of Fathers in the First Thousand Days in Italy" As we prepare to release new evidence in the coming months as part of our work on the Engaging Men in Nurturing Care (EMiNC) initiative, we want to highlight a vital report released last fall by #ISSAMember, Centre for Child Health and Development (Centro per la Salute del Bambino), exploring the state of fatherhood in Italy. The report focuses on structural and cultural factors affecting fathers' engagement, especially in the first thousand days of their child's life and emphasizes the importance of work-life balance policies for gender equality and enriched fatherhood experiences. Key insights include: - Low female employment and fertility rates in Italy. - Impact of limited childcare facilities and insufficient parental leave policies. - Cultural norms affecting the division of domestic work. The report also underscores the need for remote work and extended paternity leave to foster gender equality and support both parents in childcare. Learn more about the report in this article 🔗https://lnkd.in/d2BEfduw 📖 or read the full report (in Italian) on our website and learn how we can promote positive gender norms in #EarlyChildhood. #EMINC #Fatherhood #GenderEquality #WorkLifeBalance

👨👩👧 Finding gender equality of parental leave in the EU Time to take care of the children should be agreed upon and shared between the carers. However, before August 2022, fathers or recognised second parents in the European Union did not have a minimum right of paternity leave. This had the risk of leaving most of the weight of the first months of their baby's life on one person's shoulders, usually the mother, who also has to recover from giving birth. Since then, male carers have had the right to leave their work for at least two weeks, depending on each country, although most of them still adhere to this minimum. In fact, in 2023 only 10 out of the 27 countries allowed fathers to take more than two weeks off from work after having a child. Finland and Spain lead the way with around 4 months of paternity leave. Created by Cristina Alonso Pascual. Source: Eurostat (March 2023)

This week is Gender Equality Week in Canada, meant to celebrate the progress Canada has made to date in advancing gender equality, while reflecting on the work that remains. Today is also world contraception day, so let's celebrate, Canada! 🎉 As part of the new National Pharmacare Plan, birth control will be made free to all women regardless of their income (unless this plan is derailed which is an unfortunate possibility). This is important because contraception is not just a personal health issue—it’s a fundamental right. When people have control over their reproductive choices, they are better able to pursue education, employment, and economic opportunities. Yet, for too long, the cost of birth control has been a barrier, disproportionately affecting women, gender-diverse people, and marginalized communities. Free contraception empowers individuals to make decisions about their bodies and futures on their own terms—essential to achieving gender equality in Canada and beyond. #GenderEqualityWeek #ReproductiveJustice #SRHR #FreeContraception

In Georgia, time-use data 📊 are helping spur more fathers to take paternity leave and share the care work 👏 Time use surveys reveal how people spend their time and highlight the gender inequalities in paid 💼 and unpaid work 🏠. The latest survey, conducted by National Statistics Office of Georgia - Geostat and UN Women supported by the #WomenCount programme, revealed that women in #Georgia spend half as much time as men on paid work and twice as much time as men on unpaid work. Now, private sector companies, including TBC and ტერაბანკი •Terabank are using these data to drive change! After discovering the survey results, they launched mandatory gender equality training and actively promoted men’s involvement in childcare and the company’s fully-paid parental leave of up to 6 months.🙌 Discover more about how data is helping the private sector champion paternity leave and challenge social norms around childcare: https://lnkd.in/diamv9Fb #GenderDataForChange | #SDG5

MEN,Fatherhood in Uganda is a vital aspect of family and societal structure. Traditional gender roles still prevail, with fathers often being the primary breadwinners and decision-makers. However, modernization and urbanization have led to a shift towards more involved fatherhood, with many men taking on caregiving roles and actively participating in childcare. According to UNICEF, in 2020, 64% of Ugandan fathers reported playing with their children, and 56% reported feeding them. Despite progress, challenges persist, including limited access to parental leave and social support. Efforts to promote positive fatherhood and gender equality continue to grow in Uganda.

Hello Network Community, Do we need a uniform paternity policy across our country. It should be applicable for all establishments like factory, mine, plantation etc either belonging to the Government of India or private sectors. Being a country where our family is of first and foremost importance to us, it is an utter necessity to provide reasonable amount of paternity leaves as well. Being a country with good amount of youth population with Next GeN Fathers coming up. . .I hope this policy to be revamped. Paternal policy /parents time instances in Norway , sweden, Germany could be taken as inspiration. According to me “Child care is the joint responsibility of both parents. They must devote time to the newborn to ensure its proper well-being. In conclusion, formalizing paternity leave policies and promoting shared parenting responsibilities is not just a matter of gender equality but also a fundamental step towards building stronger, happier, and more balanced families and workplaces. #ParentsTime # Gender Equality 🙂

#Sweden101 Question 7: How many days of paid parental leave are there in Sweden? 👶 Parents in Sweden are entitled to 480 days (around 16 months) of paid parental leave when a child is born or adopted. Each parent has 90 days reserved exclusively for him/her and can allocate the remaining days between them📊 In 1974, Sweden was the first country in the world to replace gender-specific maternity leave with parental leave to enable both parents to take care of their children. Statistically, fathers in Sweden currently average around 30% of all paid parental leave👨👧👦 On the eve of the International Women’s Day, let’s take this opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements and to advocate gender equality! 👫 🇸🇪#Sweden101 is a series launched by the Consulate General of Sweden in Hong Kong to tackle questions the general public has towards Sweden. Parental Legislation Update: Embracing Flexibility & Equality Some short and sweet updates/reminders; **Flexible Working**: Say goodbye to rigid schedules! Employers will now have a legal obligation to consider requests for flexible working arrangements, from day one, empowering parents to better balance work and family responsibilities. You will also no longer need to justify why you need to have a flexible working in place. **Paternity Leave**: Paternity leave has been extended, allowing fathers more time to bond with their newborns and support their partners during those crucial early months. From the standard 2 week block to non consecutive weeks. This allows people to take their leave and pay at any point in the first year after birth or adoption of their child. These changes not only promote gender equality but also recognize the diverse needs of modern families. #ParentalLegislation #Flexibility #Equality #WorkLifeBalance #Inclusivity
