A longitudinal study that followed children from age 5 to adulthood found that individuals who were strong readers in the first five grades of primary school tended to remain strong readers as adults. This pattern held true for both typical and dyslexic children. The paper, “Early reading at first grade predicts adult reading at age 42 in typical and dyslexic readers,” was authored by Emilio Ferrer, Bennett A. Shaywitz, John M. Holahan, and Sally E. Shaywitz. #research #researchpaper #researchondyslexia #researchoncognition

Quality instruction should always include opportunities for students to practice what they are learning. Repeated readings is a great one.
Repeated practice is an important element of structured literacy for a good reason. Struggling readers may require a significant number of exposures to support long-term memory. By using online platforms, students can access deliberate practice with increased frequency and rigor. ❓ Why is still so little known about dyscalculia ? 🤔 According to my recent PubMed search (13/12/2023), there are only 719 peer-reviewed publications on dyscalculia to date, compared to 11,584 on dyslexia. THAT IS 16 TIMES LESS..... These numbers highlight the need for greater awareness and understanding of dyscalculia. Check out this slide from my recent interactive workshop on "What is Dyscalculia" to really see the difference over time. #dyscalculia #learningdisabilities #educationawareness
