Job flexibility comes in many forms, it’s not simply WFH or working less than 5 days per week. Some examples include: - Flexible start and finish times - Compressed hours (working more hours over fewer days) - Changing from full-time to part-time or casual work - Job sharing - Flexible rostering - Working from home or another location - ‘Purchasing’ extra paid leave unpaid leave - Taking rostered days off as 2 half days - Time off in lieu - Flexitime (allowing you to ‘bank’ extra hours which are then exchanged for time off) - Gradual increase or decrease in work hours /days (for example, after parental leave, or as an employee transitions to retirement. I opted for this option when returning from mat leave and it was a blessing).

26, 27, 28,... 🔥 The temperatures rise, the office is empty. Between june and september, most employees take their summer holiday. For this they have to take PTO (Paid-time-off). 🕑 💰 But how is this handled in different countries? What is PTO? 🤔 PTO is short for “paid time off”. Paid time off describes an employee’s entitlement to take time off work while still getting paid. It is often organized as an annual entitlement which can be defined in either days or weeks. Apart from time off work, these also include sick leave, parental leave, public holidays and much more. How do you calculate it? 💻 While PTO is not a legal requirement under U.S. employment laws, the legal landscape in other countries is vastly different. For instance, most European countries have minimum annual leave requirements employers have to adhere to, plus statutory requirements for sick leave, parental leave, and more. Since the different types of leave are subject to different laws and rules, managing PTO under a combined PTO policy can be difficult. However, most countries the procedures surrounding PTO are outlined in the employment law. In order to avoid compliance issues and fines, global businesses should make sure to fully understand the legal requirements that apply in each country where they have workers. If there are any doubts about how to deal with time off, it’s best to play it safe and use the services of an Employer of Record (EOR). #EOR #PTO #Lano #Summer #Vacation

When Superhuman noticed employees were underusing their flexible PTO policy, the team decided to reexamine how they think about PTO vs. leave as a whole. As their People Ops Specialist at the time Amanda Samuel put it, "Flexible PTO is great for simple needs, but bigger issues need specific, confidential policies so employees know what's supported." The result: a new compassionate leave policy that concretely outlined employees' right to time away from work for an "unexpected or challenging" life event—distinct from PTO. We've included Superhuman's full policy text below 👇 to give you a head-start on implementing compassionate or personal leave at your company. According to a new article in CNBC, many Americans don’t take all their paid time off (PTO), with 78% leaving days unused, especially #GenZ and #Millennials. They often feel pressured to meet deadlines and fear looking unproductive. Instead of requesting time off, millennials often "quiet vacation," taking breaks without telling their bosses and creating the illusion of working. This workaround culture suggests a lack of supportive PTO systems in workplaces. Employers can help by normalizing PTO, being transparent about time-off processes, and offering creative benefits like company-wide shutdowns or mandatory quarterly PTO. Improved policies, like those in Europe, could also encourage better work-life balance. Via CNBC by Jennifer Liu: https://lnkd.in/epZNRzkH #WorkLifeBalance #PTO #QuietVacation

According to a recent survey, fifteen is the magic number for annual PTO days. Respondents who took this number of PTO days were the happiest. While taking time off work is crucial for maintaining mental health, approximately 40% of U employees don't use all of their allotted PTO. Workers may need encouragement to take their PTO and step away from work. #PTO #Vacation #MentalHealth #BurnOut https://lnkd.in/gkX2KBAn

Take the PTO. I haven’t always been great at disconnecting and being fully present on vacation with family. One of my personal goals for 2024 is to slow down and be more intentional, so I made a conscious effort to disconnect from email and Teams allowing me to enjoy time with family at the beach, lake, and mountains. This was made so much easier by being empowered to take time off at Armanino LLP and by great colleagues who knew how to contact me if needed and who supported my time away. Taking meaningful time off takes planning, so I’m sharing one of my go-to resources from Renee Moelders at ConvergenceCoaching, LLC on how to truly unplug in the comments 👇 According to Pew Research, 46% of American workers did not take their full PTO in 2023 despite there being so many personal and business benefits including: ✅ Better mental and physical health. ✅ Rekindling relationships. ✅ Pursuing passions or new projects. ✅ Refocusing on what’s truly important. ✅ Improved productivity on return to work. ✅ Increased creativity and innovation. Take the PTO. #unhustle #pto #summer #leadership #employeeexperience #mentalhealthmatters #mentalwellness #liveyourbestlifenow #workplaceculture #hr #hrcommunity
