Where do you stand on working from home? Rightly, I think, a consensus seems to have emerged that it is and can be a good solution, but isn't for everyone. 🪄Firstly, people with existing loyalty and networks do better than new hires. 🪄Secondly, some people are more independent than others. 🪄Third, companies have a perfect right to expect their employees to turn up at the office from time to time in order to foster the kind of culture they want. 🪄Fourth, the value of all those mini-interactions at an office cannot be overstated. Yay or Nay on the four-day work week in Canada? Can Canadian workers be as productive on four days as they are on five? Why would employers not just hire everyone on a part-time basis to keep costs down, especially small and medium sized businesses, some of which already have thin profit margins? What's to stop workers from saying years later, why not a three-day work week or a two-day work week? If workers want to work less and employers don't want to pay for it directly, would the government step in and pay the difference? Would taxes go up to pay for it? If taxes go up, wouldn't that distort workers' incentives to work because they'd keep less? Does the time you start and finish work matter? It used to but times have changed. A large percentage of the workforce now spend part or all of their week working from home. Interesting study below showing the results of work from home on employees and some recommendations for corporations. What is interesting to note is that work intensity has decreased by working from home. I wonder if this is a result of people being more focused and getting more done or people actually working less as they dont have peers around to check on them or the pressure to be "pretending" to work in an office setting....
