It's Time is a remarkable charity founded by people who have lived experience of losing one or both parents as a young adult. Something that I sadly also have experience of. They exist to make the world a better place for young adults who have experienced parental loss. They asked me to write something for them about coming out the other side of that loss and how I dealt with it and how it influenced my life and career. Link below If this helps one person who has been through the same thing then it would really make me happy, or if reading it helps you to help someone going through this right now then that would be great too. BUT most importantly, if you're going through this right now It's Time is there to help you. I know that had I had access to the resources they provide, it would have helped me. So have a read and even better, donate to keep funding their work. https://lnkd.in/ekeKtSWy #lifeafterloss #itstime #leadingafterloss

Chris, this is a really important thing to support and I was deeply touched by what you wrote. It resonated with me so I wanted to respond and applaud you for talking about grief and loss. In 2018 I lost my dad. In 2020 I lost my aunt and my mum - identical twin sisters. In 2022 I lost my uncle. It has been a devastating time that has profoundly changed me. Even though I'm not a young person, dealing with these losses remains challenging. I think about all of them frequently - mum and dad daily, without fail. If I'm honest, although I'm 52, I often feel like an orphaned boy, lost without their steady guidance and reassuring presence. The grief is obviously less acute as time goes on but never goes away and I anticipate it never will. The sight of an object, a sound, an old joke, a song . . . anything can unexpectedly bring fond memories rushing back, and the grief accompanies them. I don't know if I've yet come to terms with it and made sense of it yet. That's part of my ongoing process of growing up. But like you I am glad I have a wife and child, my own family, to look to the future. Thank you so much for sharing. Always here to chat if you like. God bless.

Thanks Chris Stevenson for sharing - this is so true. Lost my dad aged 29 and just felt like I'd not had enough time and there would never be enough time. You are right, to go through the loss of a parent before a lot of life has been lived is the toughest things to go through. It makes you more resilient, take less sh*t, but also to seize opportunities/ say the thing like you never would before. Keep telling people you're proud of them and being transparent with the learnings!

Thanks for sharing so honestly Chris. I lost my dad when I was 23 and this sentence articulates perfectly how I feel ‘my life isn’t better for their loss but I am probably a better person for the experience of their loss’. I have never heard of the charity It's Time, 23 year old me would have benefited from them for sure. Will definitely follow them.
