Hello :) For my last post of the day, I wanted to #share something cool Before I can do that, I need to go over the basics. There is two main companies that make processors/CPU for your laptop or PC. They are Intel and AMD Both companies have similar methods for naming their products. For Intel their main line has Core in the name. It goes i3, i5, i7, then i9. i3 is the basic, i5 is for video gaming, i7 is for heavy work, and i9 is for extreme work. AMD is similar in that they call their main line Ryzen. It goes Ryzen 5, 7, then 9. AMD use to have a 3 for their basic line but I haven't seen it continued in ages ------------------------------ Now for more advanced. AMD did something impressive on an engineering level. A few years ago, they figured out how to do a "chiplet design". That is their Ryzen processors can be made in pieces rather than being made all in one go. This allows them to swap pieces in and out as needed. Kind of like Lego building In addition to swapping pieces out, it also allows them to use the best components possible in each portion of the fabrication phase ---------------------------- This brings me to #ai . As I have said before, AI is good for niche or specific functions. It is not the miracle people want you to think it is. The hardware companies clearly thought this too based on how they responded AMD took their Ryzen's and modified them to work with AI. These CPU's/Processors are simply referred to as Ryzen AI in the product line What AMD did appears to be common. The other companies modified an existing product to work with AI. No one has made a dedicated AI processing hardware from what I have seen This tells me that companies refuse to take the risk knowing it is likely a short lived trend. I can understand this. AI hasn't done anything ground breaking from what I have seen We will see what happens I guess
