Hot off the press the collaborative efforts between University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Bayer | Crop Science on #covercrop interseeding into short #corn with different herbicide programs. This is part of Victor de Sousa Ferreira Ph.D. work 👏 Main outcomes: - PRE and POST herbicides did not show a negative impact on cover crop establishment. - Interseeding cover crops at V2 produces more biomass than V4 and V6. - Short stature corn has the potential to increase cover crop biomass when interseeded compared to standard (tall) stature corn. #TeamBayer #RegenerativeAg

Ohio currently processes around 56 per cent of its annual soybean crop, which amounts to about 168 million bushels. Planned expansions could increase this capacity by an additional 55 million bushels, bringing the state’s total crush capacity to around 85-90% of its soybean production, according to Madison (Layman) Corbi, Ohio Soybean Council/Ohio Soybean Association Manager for Demand and Market Development. New research from Italy highlighted in pv magazine Global shows lower wheat production under elevated agrivoltaic systems, but a simultaneous increase in nutritional value for livestock!! “Two years of experiments have revealed that the reduction in wheat yield is limited in the phenological phase of waxy maturation in standard trackers (GCR = 13%); while the reduction was 29.6% in panels with increased shading (GCR = 41%),” Lucrezia Ghidesi, Business Developer at REM Tec srl, told pv magazine Italy. “The reduction in irradiation has substantially changed the length of wheat plants; this influenced the quality of the fodder biomass.” Read the story on PV Magazine here >> https://lnkd.in/eXbuFe_D #solar #energy #ranching #livestock #agrivoltaics #solargrazing

Most crop plants are mycorrhized and ‘Mycorrhization enhances plant growth and stabilizes biomass allocation under drought’ This is a key message to all farmers, horticulturalists, and agronomists who attempt to set their business and R&D on an environmentally sustainable (fertiliser-, irrigation water, and chemical control agent-efficient) basis. I wonder only what influence soil sterilisation followed by microbial re-inoculation had on the test outcomes of the drought impact alleviating effect of the arbuscular mycorrhizas. What is certain is that we need to introduce awareness for mycorrhiza-conscious farming, mycorrhiza-conscious crop breeding, and new mycorrhiza-conscious cultivar selection/accreditation. - Does the response of the root:shoot ratio help in this? May this ratio even help in selecting nodulation-efficient legume crops? Is R&D towards greater environmental sustainability in plant production to be organised under conditions of plant growth-limiting as well as surplus with respect to: i) mineral nutrients and ii) mycorrhizal fungal abundance and richness? so that we hopefully finally know after decades of research how to fertilise and choose the right crop cultivars - two highly interlinked issues, indeed. https://lnkd.in/d7Q9faEk

In summary: "The greatest benefit to drone seeding the rye was quicker groundcover in the fall, with minimal impact on biomass production or spring groundcover. It does appear that cereal rye can be seeded into soybeans too early, and we would recommend waiting until the last week of September or first week of October to time seeding (in central and southern PA).
