We are thrilled to announce that Zachary Jerome, a Ph.D. candidate in the Next-Generation Transportation Systems (NGTS) program in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Michigan, has been honored with the prestigious Daniel B. Fambro Student Paper Award. Zachary's award-winning paper, "Determining Minimum Change Intervals from Vehicle Trajectory Data," is a groundbreaking study focused on optimizing signalized intersections in Birmingham, MI, done in collaboration with Dr. Henry Liu, Director of the Center for Connected and Automated Transportation (CCAT). His innovative approach, analyzing vehicle trajectories across 34 intersections, has led to a pilot program achieving a 20-30% decrease in stops, revolutionizing how cities can optimize traffic signals. We are proud to see Zachary's impactful research being recognized and making waves, including coverage by the Associated Press and the Wall Street Journal. With a $1.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) program, Zachary is now set to expand this transformative work in partnership with the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC). Congratulations, Zachary! Your dedication and innovative spirit are shaping the future of transportation engineering. #TransportationResearch #Innovation #EngineeringExcellence #GoBlue
