UWS ITFSI Visiting Professor Appointments We welcome UWS ITFSI appointed visiting professors Caspar Clark and David Hughes. Professors Caspar Clark and David Hughes are entrepreneurial physicists founding Scottish based companies Helia Photonics Ltd (HPL) and Novosound Ltd respectively. HPL founded 2002 and headquartered in Livingston, Scotland, is a company renowned for its expertise in III-V & Si photonics Back End of Line processes, thin film optical coating technologies and offers an array of advanced services catering to a wide range of optical and semiconductor applications. With a focus on precision and innovation, Helia Photonics has established itself as a key player in the photonics industry. Caspar Clark, CEO of HPL is an internationally recognised leader in coatings for semiconductor devices, optical fibre ends and free space optical components. Novosound is UWS ITFSI`s first spinout company based in Biocity, Glasgow, utilises the latest thin-film deposition technologies to create various products with a unique printed ultrasound sensor that is truly flexible, high-resolution, adaptable and scalable. Novosound patented technology was developed at the Institute of Thin Films, Imaging and Sensors (ITFSI) at the University of the West of Scotland by current CEO Professor Dave Hughes whilst a postdoctoral research fellow. Professor Hughes has over 10 years experience in ultrasound research pushing the limits of ultrasound imaging and measurement by exploiting Thin Film Technology in current and untapped markets. The visiting professors will participate in curriculum development, face-to-face teaching and/ or mentoring of undergraduate & postgraduate research students and development of innovative approaches in thin film technology and associated applications.
