I had a dining experience last night, and a simple mistake was wreaking havoc on their ambiance... 🍽️ The music was great, but they had these awkward silences between songs. 🎵 The vibe kept going up and down, along with the chatter from the guests. 🗣️ People couldn't help but notice the gaps in the music. 🙉 But guess what? The solution is simple: a crossfader on their music system. 🔀 A small tweak that could've kept the atmosphere flowing all night. 🌙 Remember, it's the little details that can make a big impact. What defines luxury in today’s hospitality industry? Is it still rooted in opulence and material wealth, or has it shifted toward something deeper and more meaningful? In the modern hospitality landscape, particularly within boutique hotels, the notion of luxury has transformed significantly. The days when luxury meant only material excess and grandeur are fading. Today’s travellers, especially the new generation, are more interested in experience over extravagance, with a distinct focus on meaningful engagement. This shift reflects a deeper understanding of what true luxury is: one that prioritises authenticity, individuality, and connection. One of the most powerful ways to create this type of luxury is through sensory design. It’s not just about how a space looks; it’s about how it makes you feel. Sensory design taps into the non-visual senses to craft unforgettable experiences, from soundscapes that calm to scents that evoke nostalgia, and tactile elements that ground people in the environment. Neuroaesthetics—the study of how our brains respond to aesthetic stimuli—plays a significant role in this transformation, helping designers create spaces that enhance well-being, belonging, and even community. Additionally, understanding scarcity in today’s world reshapes our approach to luxury. While material wealth once symbolised status, in the modern era, time, privacy, and self-connection are the new luxuries. Boutique hotels are particularly well-suited to offer these elements, providing spaces that not only act as a retreat but also help guests reconnect with themselves and their surroundings. At Kevin Haley Studio, we embrace this shift. We focus on creating narrative-driven environments where every design element contributes to a coherent story. Whether it’s a striking use of colour, a form that tells a historical tale, or the texture of materials, we aim to create spaces that resonate with users on an emotional level. The goal is not just to provide a beautiful place to stay, but to offer a journey—one where guests feel a deep connection to both the space and themselves. I’ll be delving into these concepts at the London Design Festival during our panel, Crafting Atmosphere: The Art of Sensory Design in Boutique Hotels. I’m eager to collaborate with experts like Doug 🔊 Marshall (soundscapes) and Star Xing Sun (fragrance), as we explore how sensory design enhances guest experiences and sets boutique hotels apart in a competitive market, crafting environments that speak to both the senses and the soul. In Propel Info this morning. “18-24-year-olds are more likely to choose soft drinks in a bar or late-night setting” It used to be easy to keep people enterntained in venues, because most of them where drunk. Now your audience is sober and you need to work harder to keep them engaged. That means the music has to be spot on. It needs to captivate them and create an unforgettable atomosphere. My favorite drinks are now Agua de Madre TRIP and Pentire. So this bank holiday, make sure your music is delivering, if its not, hola at Altaura https://lnkd.in/e6rsXfnz #atmospherealchemy #musicforbusiness #nonalchoholicdrinks #genz

Did you see this?! Things got heated during the Women's Beach Volleyball final between Brazil and Canada on Friday. Words were exchanged at the net, the ref got involved, and then... The DJ played "Imagine"... And all was right in the world again. The next time you're having a heated conversation at work or elsewhere, make sure you have John Lennon's "Imagine" cued up ready to go! #PopCultureInspiration #music #Olympics
