Mixed reality may be preferable, over virtual reality, for reducing cybersickness 💡 My recent Master's project was an exciting journey of exploration and innovation in which I had the privilege of working for the Swedish Air Force Combat Simulation Centre at FOI, Totalförsvarets forskningsinstitut. My task was to explore the utilization of immersive technologies in flight simulation. I delved into a comprehensive analysis of cybersickness, focusing on two distinct flight simulation environments: virtual reality and mixed reality, with the headset Varjo XR-3. To achieve this, I created a mixed reality simulator with the Unreal Engine, including 3D terrain from Cesium. Through experiments on users, I gathered data and statistically analyzed the results. A key finding suggested that mixed reality appeared to elicit less severe cybersickness. Trying out some fascinating virtual reality programmes i3 Simulations

Thanks to the collaboration between the United States Department of Defense and Silicon Valley, pilots are now training in #virtualreality, with a tactile and visual  setup that mimics actual flight - no imagination needed. Aliens appear from behind nearby buildings, reacting to real-world conditions like time, weather, and your location. The invasion just got real!
