Excitement for pushing the boundaries of #architecture drives Noor Khader from the Institute for Structural Design (ITE) at Technische Universität Braunschweig. 💡 Specializing in additive manufacturing, Noor Khader focuses on clay #3Dprinting, aspiring to foster a culture of creative design thinking. She envisions a space where architects not only innovate but also critically examine the essence of the built environment and envision its potential evolution. 🏗️ "One of the primary challenges is the translation of the 3D printed clay parts, into real architectural applications. I think it requires a delicate balance between remaining the structural integrity of the printed parts but also how you can you bring it into a more efficient application as you scale it up?", says the scientist. 🎥 Explore the world of cutting-edge architecture with our #science2go series, shedding light on diverse research areas at #TUBraunschweig. #3DPC2024 #Finalist "3DLightSlab" SDU CREATE Led by Ass. Prof. Dr. Roberto Naboni Research Team: Luca Breseghello, Daniele Florenzano, Hamed Hajikarimian, Roberto Naboni Industrial partners: Weber Saint Gobain Denmark, Hyperion Robotics DENMARK 3DLightSlab is a load-bearing slab optimized to minimize CO2 emissions through a stress-driven design approach. It significantly enhances material efficiency by featuring adaptable isostatic ribs that cater to various shapes and load conditions. A detailed case study demonstrates the slab's capability to endure combined loads supported by two columns. This was achieved using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for precise rib optimization, ensuring the design meets Eurocode standards. The slab was produced using reinforced 3D concrete printing technology and has undergone rigorous structural testing to confirm its performance. This project highlights the potential for employing 3D printing in constructing low-embodied carbon buildings, showcasing an innovative step forward in sustainable construction practices. 🔜 Rapid.Tech 3D (14-16 May 24), Messe Erfurt, Germany 💡 Visit the 3DPC Finalists #exhibition 🏆 3DPC #awardceremony 15 May 2024, 3:30pm, booth 2.509! www.3dpc.io #wettbewerbe2024 #award #innovation #3d #advancedtechnologies #challenge2024 #am #mindset #CollaborativeMindset #disruptive #3ddruck #industry #pushingboundaries #3dprinting #competition #collaborative #additivemanufacturing

Join us for Arch_Manu Talk Series 06, featuring Dr Seungkyu Yoo 유승규, Research Professor at the Center for AI Technology in Construction at Hanyang University (South Korea). Titled 'Additive Manufacturing in Facade System' the lecture will unpack Dr Yoo's research through 2 case studies. Additive manufacturing technology possesses characteristics such as expanded design freedom and small-batch, multi-product production. This represents a departure from mass production-focused manufacturing but closely aligns with the characteristics of architectural projects. Furthermore, the design freedom expansion feature of additive manufacturing allows for the realization of ideal forms pursued by architects (or clients) and enables the production of free-form architectural components that are challenging to reproduce. This presentation aims to share two cases where additive manufacturing technology was initially applied in the Korean construction market: the 'Galleria Department Store' and the user-defined space 'BLOBEE.' In both cases, structural node designs achieving the target shape using parametric design technology were developed. And various additive manufacturing technologies were utilized to produce nodes that ensured cost-effectiveness, structural stability, and seamless design. As a result, the production of freeform nodes using additive manufacturing technologies eliminated the impracticalities of on-site construction while significantly reducing construction time and ensuring quality. Dr Seungkyu Yoo is research professor at the Center for AI Technology in Construction at the Hanyang University in South Korea. Since 2014, he has been leading national R&D projects in the field of additive manufacturing and making real business cases. His work focuses on facilitating construction 3D Printing research and business development, with a special emphasis on the freeform facade system via various additive manufacturing technologies (e.g. Metal & Polymer Powder bed fusion, Binder Jetting). He also has developed the business or practical applications as follows: Metal Node System for freeform building facade, Polymer Node System for private space structure. Date and Location: 16th April 2024, 12:00-1:30pm AEST Online, Teams event Register at this link for a calendar invite and the access link: https://lnkd.in/gFEbAX2E #arch_manu #architecture #design #construction #manufacturing #additivemanufacturing #aecindustry #technology #facadesystem #facadedesign
