Associate Sales Engineer at Johnson Controls | Inventor | B.S. Biomedical Engineering | Statistics Minor
Pictured, you can see my intern colleagues Emily DeCocq and Rylee Porter. Throughout our internship experience at Novartis RLT in Indianapolis, we grew more comfortable with the (endearing) term "Avengers," coined by operators and management alike! All jokes aside, this internship was an awesome experience. My role as "Production Intern" seemed vague at first, but I was quick to realize that it was not an ambiguous role, but rather all-encompassing! I reported to line operators, line heads, radiation safety officers, the quality team, and site management daily. My internship project was related to process engineering. More specifically, the question was: what is the designated path, and what is the optimal timing for each step between batches (from last vial filled in one batch to first vial filled in the following)? I sought the guidance of all those mentioned prior to achieve this goal. Analyzing SOPs, interviewing operators, gathering data on batch processes and inefficiencies, and gaining weekly constructive feedback on my project from management were all essential to my success; I can't thank the team enough for their help! Ultimately, I was able to reach and exceed my defined goals for the project. In addition to defining a path and determining optimal timing, I was able to establish an optimized personnel flow in accordance with our operational capacities. Finally, I was able to statistically scope the effect that reaching this optimal timing/flow would have on the site as a whole, in terms of monetary and temporal return on investment. I was lucky to work with such great mentors. Their dedication to manufacturing process with such a crucial medicine like Pluvicto is really something to marvel at (unintended Avengers joke). This site's staff and the medicine of interest truly encompass Novartis's aim: to reimagine medicine to improve and extend people's lives.
