📢 Urgent Call to Action 📢 Join us and nearly 40 NGOs in urging MPs to stand against the row back of rights for survivors of modern slavery. In 2017, the UK Government promised the Places of Safety scheme – a vital support model that provides survivors with advice, shelter, and medical intervention in the crucial days post-exploitation. After a 6-year wait, this promise has been scrapped along with the pledge to provide survivors with a minimum of 12 months’ support. Without such a scheme, opportunities for identification and survivor support will be missed. This leaves many without the chance to process what they have experienced and make an informed decision about whether accessing support or working with the authorities is right for them. Our joint letter, backed by nearly 40 NGOs, emphasises the need for Places of Safety and 12 months' support. Take a stand 📢 Use the automated email template to contact your MP and demand that the UK fulfills its promises to ensure survivors’ rights and wellbeing are protected: https://lnkd.in/gTW-UCCc #AdvocateForSurvivors #HumanRights #TakeAction #EndModernSlavery #StandWithSurvivors #ModernSlavery #Politics #UKPolitics #UnitedKingdom After Exploitation Snowdrop Project Anti-Slavery International Justice and Care Hope for Justice and Slave-Free Alliance The Salvation Army UK and Ireland Territory Work Rights Centre Ella's Focus On Labour Exploitation (FLEX) La Strada International Hope at Home

Modern slavery is a harrowing global issue, with nearly 50 million individuals trapped in its grip worldwide. In the UK, more than 100,000 people are estimated to be victims. The Modern Slavery Act of 2015 aimed to combat this exploitation by consolidating trafficking and slavery offenses. However, the landscape has evolved. With severe labour shortages exacerbated by Brexit and the pandemic, the care sector is particularly vulnerable as migratory labour increases. How can your care organisation contribute to end modern slavery? 🤝🏻 Visit the link to learn how! https://lnkd.in/gMeQrqQD #carehires #modernslavery #socialcare #carehomes #workforcemanagement #digitalsolutions

Gosh UNRWA, why haven't you asked Egypt to allow innocent Gazan civilians to temporarily cross the Egyptian border? If there were no innocent Gazan civilians in Rafah, there could be no innocent Gazan civilian casualties. International Humanitarian Law requires countries to allow innocent civilians to flee a combat area across the nearest non-combatant border. So why haven't you asked Egypt to allow innocent Gazan civilians to temporarily cross the Egyptian border? We know that the terrorists and oligarchs are allowed to cross the Egyptian border whenever they want, either through the tunnels, or with bribes. Why are the vulnerable required to stay in Gaza?
In #Gaza, schools have been turned into emergency shelters. Despite this, our UNRWA colleagues continue to use every available space to support children with psychosocial activities amid the hardships of war. This is a critical way to help kids get back to learning. #UNRWAworks

Do you work with asylum seekers? I want to talk with you! I'm trying to collect examples of how communities are working with newly arrived asylum seekers and who is serving them/how they are being served. Particularly, I'm interested in seeing if current systems of care that are designed to serve people who are experiencing homelessness are also serving asylum seekers, and exactly with what.

CEO of Social Value UK | Think Tank Trustee | Former Barrister, Vice President: Political Party, Patron: Political Donor Network, Governor, Civil Servant & Educator | Public, Private & Charitable experience
Do You Think Everyone Deserves the Right to a Second Chance? Having worked within the criminal justice system as both a prosecutor and a defence barrister, and in many other capacities, including being on the Sentencing Advisory Panel and supporting victims of crime, I firmly believe that we are more than the sum of our past mistakes and failures. Sid Singh of Grow Transform Belong CIC has made transformation and restoration his life's mission. His organisation helps ex-offenders, care leavers, refugees, the homeless, and the long-term unemployed receive wraparound support to re-integrate into their communities in a meaningful and purposeful way. Many of our Social Value UK members work across a range of sectors, including within the field of social justice. And measuring the social impact of organisations that are part of the ecosystem of support within this area is key to optimising the social value created. This is something I'm exploring with Sid and organisations like his. Have you got any insights or experience to share, particularly if you work within the VCSE sector or as a corporate organisation that partners with the VCSE sector? #SecondChances #SocialJustice #CommunitySupport #TransformLives #SocialValue #RestorativeJustice #VCSE #CommunityIntegration #SupportSystems
