This is what trending in the market. People find every way to find opportunity to fool people and use loopholes. Many students being fresher look for internship opportunity to learn and mention in CV since nowadays companies are asking for "experienced" freshers. Recently I too enrolled in a internship program with OctaNet Services Pvt Ltd. . At first I too was excited to work since I didn't heard any negative about that at first( like this post mentioning other such companies). But they are too clever and know how to engage and enroll students. They first enrolled and offered the joining letter at first and then gave two tasks at first and then conducted two training sessions at YouTube and after two weeks they started demanding money for various types of courses including various certificates . These type of marketing is very clever since students think that they already spent half a month doing work and it is better to pay and get the certificate. But I never heard in any good company including startups where they demand money for a certificate infact they offer stipend. 𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝑽𝒊𝒓𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒔 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆? 𝑴𝒚 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑺𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝑵𝒐. I recently came across a LinkedIn post that perfectly captured my sentiments about virtual internships. Based on my own experience, I find that virtual internships are often a waste of time and energy and do not provide the value they promise. So as you know my experience with virtual internship is not soo bright, let me give you a glimpse into what it really looks like . So I found out from my linkedin connection , that they have completed a virtual internship at an Indian (I guess) company. I had heard about virtual internships earlier and I was thinking of trying them out. So , I thought let's give it a try. I checked their website and it looked professional . The website was well built . And I applied for the post of a virtual internship . There was nothing done to ensure that I have even the basic knowledge for the post that I am applying. I did apply and then I completely forgot about it. After some days, I got a mail stating that I got accepted . Wow . I was excited to meet and talk to new people and learn from them. Now comes the plot twist and a setback to me. So they sent me some more emails, stating that I should post the work done on public , and some more stuff . The tasks u ask ? There were 4 tasks divided into 2 stages . And we had to complete atleast one to move to the next phase . For the support and mentorship u ask ? Forget about them . You are on your own . I was given a link to a discord server that was dead already , with no engagement and interactions among the internees. Even the admin was unresponsive. I had messaged him a long time ago, he has yet to reply. I am now in dilemma, whether should I continue with the internship or just drop it mid way ? Sharing ur accomplishment after grinding for it gives another sense of intrinsic joy and a sense of accomplishment. With this virtual internship, I am hesitant to even share the progress and all that . It just doesnt feel right to do so . So I would just advise you, learn from youtube , courses and documentations and build projects. Keep ur head down and keep on grinding , you will get success very soon. This method is surely a lot better than getting a false sense of accomplishment and getting a dose of mental masturbation . P.S : I might be prolly biased due to many reasons (some of the reasons being : wrong expectations , first time experience, etc ) . Feel free to discuss any contradictory ideas .

Exploitation of Student Desperation: Some companies take advantage of students' eagerness to gain experience by offering unpaid or low-quality internships. This can lead to a cycle of exploitation where students invest time and sometimes money without gaining valuable skills or connections.
