Our newsletter unravels the complexities around why and how the Spanish grid extensions have been tempered by systemic concerns. - With much of the country’s project pipeline facing a looming July 2025 grid connection deadline, with connection offers to be rescinded if the deadline wasn’t met, this meant that even those #onshore wind and #solar PV projects which achieved RTB by H2 2023 were faced with the risk of neither securing the necessary supply chain to build, - The whole rationale for bringing in a grid connection deadline in #Spain in the first place was to help weed out all the speculative, poor quality projects which their backers had no intention of building but which had been clogging up #grid access queues. However, administrative bodies have subsequently provided favourable #environmental impact assessments to numerous projects which really shouldn’t have made the cut. Renewable Energy Recruitment | Project Management, Engineering & Construction | Solar, Wind & BESS in Germany
Afternoon LinkedIn, It's been hard to find time these past few weeks to keep up to date with all the changes happening in the Renewables market. A changing political landscape combined with uncertainty in investment have left the market feeling a little shaky. Today I read an article (see below) filled with positive news about the global energy transition, suggesting that Solar installations alone could equal 574 GW this year! Since it's easy to get caught up in the doom & gloom of news articles I wanted to see how many of my connections had read positive news this week? If you've seen any positive articles/ news stories in the world of renewables, please post it in the comments below! #renewableenergy #news #solar #wind

It is not uncommon for burgeoning industries like the #solarpv one to face numerous developmental challenges. In fact as a former #technology #transition scholar, I'm acutely aware that these transitions do not follow linear trajectories. However, these challenges ought to be properly framed if they are to be adequately addressed. In this piece we respond to some industry perceptions of these challenges. Thanks Ryan Hammond for bringing this to our attention. #solarpv #solar #energysecurity
As the voice for the solar PV industry in South Africa, we welcome any discussion that ultimately leads to the best interest of the sector we represent. As we explain in this piece published by Engineering News, it takes a collective effort to grow the sector and we need everyone to play their part. #SAPVIA #SolarPV

With grid-scale batteries in California (CASIO market) making headlines in The New York Times, I thought it would be interesting to compare this with other solar-rich areas like Australia 📈 Here's a quick snapshot of the Queensland and California loads from Monday: 🔋Both grids face a significant drop-off in solar energy from 6 pm onwards, coinciding with rising demand. In California, batteries stepped in to shift excess solar into the afternoon, while in Queensland, natural gas power stations ramped up instead. 🍃Notably, 69% of California's generation came from renewables, compared to (still impressive) 23% in Queensland. Queensland's reliance on inflexible coal makes integrating renewables more challenging compared to gas, and a key factor behind rising curtailment in Australia. 💪Flexibility isn't just from batteries; grid interconnects also play a crucial role. Like gas, flexibility eases renewable penetration, and imports and exports help manage load alongside batteries. On Monday, Queensland imported 20 GWh and exported none, while California imported 96 GWh and exported 23 GWh. This analysis shows that California's grid isn't a one-size-fits-all future model, but it highlights the critical role of energy storage. Similarly, Australia can offer insights into the future challenges of transitioning from coal. #solar #batterytechnology #renewables

co-founder, Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air; senior fellow, Asia Society Policy Institute: tracking and advancing the clean energy transition, with data and evidence
China's solar&wind capacity additions in Jan-Apr are still ahead of the record levels of 2023. April was a slow month for new wind farm connections; solar steamed along at last year's rates (220 GW/year!). China Electricity Council, who have a good idea of the project pipeline, predicted at the start of the year that 170 GW solar and 90 GW wind would be added in 2024; so far solar looks to be ahead of that prediction and wind on track. https://lnkd.in/dMchzF7V

Election fever is in full swing, and energy policy has been front and centre. Already, the new UK Government has lifted restrictions on onshore wind projects – a positive and long-awaited move welcomed by the renewables industry. It will also revise planning policy to place onshore wind equally alongside other energy development in the National Planning Policy Framework, helping to ensure the UK can double onshore wind energy by 2030. The UK is a key market for Sonnedix, where we have controlled capacity of just over 400MW. This includes the 120MW Cowley Complex, which is set to become one of the largest solar PV plants in the UK once construction is completed in Q3 2025. We look forward to working alongside the new government to continue to accelerate the UK's energy transition and meet decarbonisation goals 🤝 #UK #Election #Renewables #EnergyPolicy
