1. **Creative Stagnation**: Some argue that the film industry is experiencing a lack of innovation and risk-taking, with studios favoring safe bets over daring, original content. This can lead to a stagnation of creativity and a homogenization of film offerings. 2. **Inequality and Representation**: There's ongoing scrutiny regarding diversity and representation in the film industry, both in front of and behind the camera. The lack of opportunities for marginalized communities can lead to a loss of diverse perspectives and storytelling. ** If you take the risk and go with art which come from human experience and expression you might just find something beautiful. Until then we wait in the side line waiting to be hand fed by the gatekeepers who will die rich and take nothing with them.

"Every film project feels like fantasy until it happens. There is always a bit of pure will to make a thing come into the world." --Professor Charles Haine on making feature films. In general, the same is true for media production. At the beginning of a project everything is kind of fantastical and nebulous. There are many conversations about what the end result should look like and few about how to get there. In the end it leaves creatives with two options: 1) make it happen via pure will and determination or 2) find another job or project. This scenario often leads to exploitation and resentment.

In anticipation of the next few weeks, Anthony Kaufman wrote about what a large and promising film festival like Sundance should be for. Kaufman notes that after last year’s Sundance even the top 1-2 % completed docs who received distribution deals aren’t necessarily going to break even. There was no middle, where some of that already tiny percent of docs who were distributed recouped, but others recouped less than a quarter. He cites an anonymous documentary producer who claims: “The most important thing in the independent nonfiction world right now is… developing new distribution mechanisms. We can always think about visionary filmmakers, but we need to think about who are the visionaries in distribution who are going to crack the distribution code.” As Kaufman ends, people don’t go into this industry to make money, but if we want to continue seeing the work of visionaries and changemakers in documentary film we need a better way to support their endeavors and the system as a whole. I I recently had the opportunity to watch an incredible short film and I wanted to share my thoughts. When starting out, many people struggle with making short films. I believe the reason is that we don’t watch as many short films as we do feature-length movies. Most people try to cram the scope of a feature film into a short format, and it just doesn’t work. Once you start watching more short films and understanding the medium, you can create a great short film. You only have time for one key event to take place. Here's the formula: - Quick setup - Punch - Plot twist This award-winning short film demonstrates this perfectly. Check it out! https://lnkd.in/eFtkw6vs

In a world (and on a platform) rife with AI rants and occupational pissing matches, comes a short but mighty (hilarious) film that explores the true danger of artificial intelligence & competitiveness: emotional exhaustion, android adultery and heartbreak.
Thanks to friends and colleagues, friendly colleagues, and colleagues who are also friends, for helping to make this li'l gem of a short film happen. WORKINGSTIFF FILMS Stacy Gallo Jeff Collins
