In FLOW-3D HYDRO, you can use either two-dimensional depth-averaged or three-dimensional computational meshes, or both 2D and 3D meshes within the same model. In this bridge example, a 2D mesh is used in the larger extent of the river, and a detailed 3D mesh is used near the bridge to capture the 3D flow behavior at the bridge piers. ⚡ Fluid-Structure Interaction - 3D Turbulent Case ⚡ Simulation of a Fluid-Structure Interaction case of a turbulent flow around a fixed cylinder with a flexible thin rubber plate and a rear mass (Re=30 470). This is an FSI benchmark realised experimentally and proposed by Kalmbach and Breuer [1]. The fluid mesh is composed of about 40 million tetrahedrons, while the solid mesh is made of 900 27-node hexahedrons. This simulation is performed using a partitioned coupling between an Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) solver with LES approach and a Structural Mechanics Solver (SMS), both included inside the YALES2 library. The coupling is performed via the CWIPI library. The mesh movement is computed using a pseudo solid method, combined with the dynamic mesh adaptation module based on MMG3D. Structure oscillations amplitude has been here predicted with an error of 2.9%, and frequency with an error of 4.2% in comparison with experimental data.
