What a wonderful story of the value of the co-operative model. The Plainfield Co-op in Vermont is a 51-year-old community-owned grocery store that is in the midst of a VERY unique expansion. The co-op's small store couldn't provide the variety of grocery choices their community wanted, and the low volume of sales was impacting the prices they could offer. Lack of land and parking limited who could be served and their ability to expand in place. Enter Plainfield Hardware (+ garden center, pet supply, deli & gifts) that had been up for sale. The co-op explored the feasibility of acquiring the business and site following which members voted in favor of the expansion and diversification. The move is projected to double grocery sales and add an additional $1.4M in revenues from the hardware store. The co-op is now presently operating in both locations as it eventually transitions the entire operation into the new single store. Best Daze celebrated the grand opening of its latest dispensary in Bernalillo this past Saturday. The new facility, located at 115 US-550 S, Suite A, will offer diverse products, including Cookies brand products. Bernalillo is a market of opportunity for strong operators. It is a low-traffic, small retail basket with the mid-point of REC revenue far below the statewide REC Median of $28,000. Bernalillo insights: ✔️ 68% of FEB REC sales are attributed to 2 storefronts: PurLife and Family Strains. (DEC '23: 70%) ✔️ Much lower than average REC transaction/store. Low shopper traffic market. ✔️ Much lower REC AOV ($32) than statewide of $41.99. Small baskets due to a combo of price discounting and smaller Average Item Prices ✔️ 8 out of 10 storefronts <$30k in FEB REC sales, and 5 of 10 reported <$9k. Retail exits will most likely occur in the next 3-6 months. ✔️ Family Strains and Dispensary Near Me have been the healthiest retail storefronts over the past three months (based on reported REC sales) ✔️ Median REC Sales in FEB were meager - only $11,140
