It’s called an Individual Development Plan (IDP) because it’s Individual. Yet most individuals don’t use one. Some don’t even know it exists. For those who have one, they don’t realize the power it holds. It’s a tool to set your career path into motion. To garner explicit support from your manager. To then make it so much easier for you to get promoted. Want to get promoted? Use your IDP. -------------------------------------- Need help making that happen? 🛎️ DM me and let’s chat!

One small bit of advice I have for newer employees looking to build their skills and career is to focus on being PRESENT. Sometimes that means physically present. Say “yes” to lunches and happy hours when you can, join meetings when invited, and take advantage of formal and informal mentorship opportunities, like office hours. This can also mean energetically present. Observe what is happening around you and don’t be passive; participate when possible. Learn people’s names and hobbies if they’re open to sharing. Care about your physical and emotional environment, even if it isn’t strictly your job. Just let people know you’re there and paying attention. I’ve seen a few people over the years advance their careers just by being “present” in these ways. It doesn’t happen immediately. But it is so simple that almost anyone can do it at any point in their careers.

This week in our Meet the Team Series, we caught up with Daniel Grigg, our Support Team Administrator and Quality and Education Champion! 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐒𝐆 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦? I am passionate about education and have been involved in it outside of work for many years now. It's great to try to bring this into the workplace to help my colleagues advance in their careers and achieve their goals. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚? Education is important for both professional and personal growth. By investing in education, we are better able to deliver on our goals as a business, as well as foster a positive and proactive company culture. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫? It's easy to expect people to be responsible for their own learning and progression, but providing people with the tools needed for growth, and time to achieve that, is more beneficial in the long run, as otherwise it's easy for people to feel stagnant within their careers.
