🟢 🟢 🟢 Hydrogen & P2X conference in Copenhagen offered this year a tight schedule. The prominent industry speakers all had one agenda - showcase how far we have come with PtX development. I couldn’t not notice an underlaying message of all the presentations. ♻️ There is an enormous potential in hydrogen, regardless of what “X” stands for ‼️ However, we are still lacking a solid decision base for business models to accelerate the off-take. Academia, what are the published ideas that can best help industry overcoming this challenge? My colleagues at Energy ResearchLab @ Norlys Energy Trading A/S are looking forward to getting inspired by the answers 🌟 #hydrogenp2x2024 #forteshydrogen #greenhydrogen24

MoreH2 is set to pave the way for green hydrogen According to SINTEF, 96% of hydrogen production relies on fossil fuels. Therefore, we need a more sustainable alternative to achieve a green energy transition. A part of the answer could lie in the development of innovative options for producing green hydrogen and improving the cost and durability of electrolysis technologies. The MoreH2 project, funded by Nordisk Energiforskning within the Nordic Grand Solutions Programme, is looking into this. The project's objective is to accelerate the large-scale production of green hydrogen, a key component in the decarbonisation of sectors that currently rely on fossil energy, such as steel, chemical industries, and transportation. "We will focus on the production of green hydrogen, by improving the cost and durability of electrolysis technologies. Through close collaboration with a variety of partners in the Nordic countries, we’ll ensure that the technological advances are in line with the stakeholders’ needs and limitations," says Jan Froitzheim, Project Manager of MoreH2. 🧑🏻💻 Excited to share that on June 10th, I presented our paper, "A Comparative Analysis of Cournot Equilibrium and Perfect Competition Models for Electricity and Hydrogen Markets Integration," at The International Conference on European Energy Markets (EEM) - EEM24 in Istanbul, hosted by Kadir Has Üniversitesi. This work, co-authored with Francisco Alberto Campos Fernández, PhD and Jose Villar Collado, was conducted at the Instituto de Investigación Tecnológica. 📊 Key Insights: - We explored how the integration of electricity and hydrogen markets operates under both oligopoly and perfect competition scenarios. - Our model assesses the impact of electricity prices on electrolyzer operation and its subsequent effects on hydrogen production and costs. - Results show a promising future for green hydrogen in Spain and Portugal, with production costs ranging from 0.74 to 2.52 €/kg and potential volumes of 1.05 to 1.84 Mton. This is competitive compared to gray hydrogen, which costs 2.89 €/kg with production volumes of 0.6 to 0.7 Mton. - In an oligopoly, firms face a trade-off: using more renewable energy for electricity reduces electrolysis costs but limits the availability for hydrogen production, thus affecting their profits from both markets. - Under perfect competition, renewable energy is used more efficiently, though green hydrogen production is lower. It was an honor to present our research and engage in discussions on energy market integration and sustainable energy solutions with colleagues. 🙌🏻 A big thanks to the EEM24 organizers and the audience for their support and interest! 🔎 You can find the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/diKHBqdM #EEM24 #EnergyTransition #HydrogenEconomy #Hydrogen #RenewableEnergy #EnergyMarkets #ElectricityMarket #Sustainability
