New at my Patreon... Are there any rules which could apply to all sleeper trains? I detail a few, using examples of trains from around the world: Rules of the sleeper train https://lnkd.in/gu4SYex5 #Train #Trains #SleeperTrain #RailTravel #Rail

Exercising caution around #railroadtracks is important. So are boarding and exiting trains. • Stay back from the platform. Do not run or ride in stations or on platforms. • Wait until the train stops to approach the door. Let others exit before you board. • Watch your step when entering and exiting the train. • Remain seated while the train is in motion. If standing, hold the handholds or handrails. • Hold children’s hand on the platform while boarding and exiting. Talk with them about rail safety. • Look both ways for oncoming trains. • Never climb, sit, stand, walk or ride between or at the end of train cars. Put safety first when walking, bicycling or driving near #railroad tracks and crossings. Trains can move in either direction at any time and you may not hear them coming. They can also take more than a mile to stop. • Always expect a train. • Stay alert around railroad tracks. • Always obey railroad signals and markings. • Never walk or stop a vehicle on railroad tracks. • Trains have the right-of-way 100% of the time. • Cross tracks only at designated pedestrian or roadway crossings. https://bit.ly/3nn1Mdo https://bit.ly/3Jrxtyr #railsafety #SeeTracksThinkTrain #StopTrackTragedies

Never ever try to cross through or board a stopped train. At any moment, the train may suddenly start moving. And on today's extremely long trains, the couplers slack can cause the railcars you are between to lurch forward with tremendous speed and immediacy if the train unexpectedly departs. #slackaction #levelcrossing #safety #railsafety #tracksafety #trainhazards #RailENR

As I stood on yet another absolutely packed short-formed ScotRail service from Edinburgh to Fife tonight, I reflected on the paradox of spending £116 million to reopen a few miles of railway and two stations in Fife, while spending precisely £ zero on new rolling stock to support the expanded timetable. The Fife Circle has had no investment in new rolling stock in the last 20 years, most of which comprises of legacy British Rail diesel units dating from the late 1980s. Short-formed trains have become increasingly common as the trains begin to show their age. The unit I had this morning had only 2 of the 4 sets of doors operable but did at least manage to continue its journey. In what now are the crucial first impressions for people trying out rail from Levenmouth and Cameron Bridge for the first time, perhaps having used private transport previously, hopefully the passenger experience will not be spoiled by overcrowded, short-formed services and the life-expired diesel units serving them. But at least the short-formed train I managed to squeeze onto tonight had pretty colours on it. 😐 #rail #customerexperience #modalshift

New fact in this new article on Washington State Ferries' current bidding for the five new electric-hybrid ferries now underway: "If the bidding goes according to plan, the state might have the two lowest bidders build the boats simultaneously." Would that accelerate the launch schedule and/or lose economies of scale? This article presents other important facts and perspective from the head of the ferry system, Steven Nevey. https://lnkd.in/gNENfWvy #washingtonstateferries #shipbuilding #washingtonstate
