When I tell people I am a travel agent, some react with incredulity, as in, why does your job exist? Can’t people just book their travel online? Some of my many super-powers are to structure vacations to avoid pitfalls, use reliable providers and leverage my professional relationships when things inevitably go awry. This quote from from Seth Kugel sums up my role perfectly: “So a final note as you plan for 2024: Vacations are not automobiles, mass-produced in factories with some form of quality control, and returnable for a refund or replacement if they arrive in less than perfect condition. Vacations are complex, emotional adventures that take place in the real world, with its unpredictable weather, chaotic geopolitics and cultural complexities.” https://lnkd.in/g3uFTzJt

Do you see out-of-country vacations as essential or a financial mistake? Here's my take. I just returned from my first vacation outside of Canada since 2016—Playa Mujeres near Cancun, Mexico. It was an all-inclusive deal at a stunning beach resort. Why did I wait so long? Life got in the way, and I had convinced myself that vacations were an unnecessary, frivolous expense and that I didn't deserve one. I also had all kinds of excuses: What if I got sick? Ended up in a lousy resort? Or worse—the plane crashed? These fears held me back. But here's the thing—none of that happened. Instead, I spent time on the beach, completely detached from the stresses of modern life, and left my smartphone locked away in the room safe. I focused on being present with my loving girlfriend, and it made all the difference. I came back a new man—healed, whole, and recharged. In other words, it was worth every penny. And yes, there will be more vacations this year. I now see it as an investment in my personal development. 😊 What about you? Summer holidays ahead. As I pulled my caravan from storage, I snapped this picture. Honestly speaking not only for fun, but also to impress #KABE as I would like to do business for them 😉 Anyway, #summertime in Europe. In NL we name this period ‘cucumber-time’ - meaning there is little news as the politicians are on holidays and the stories dominating the headlines are about nothing. Though according to Wikipedia the saying comes from German tailors whom were working in London back in 1700. Because the London nobility was travelling during summer there was not much to earn for them in that time of year. The same time of year the cucumbers were growing… Seems this last version traditionally goes for our #freight business. Though I sense that this year July and August might get different. Spot capacity has been tight over the past three months, pushing market prices higher. The same time summer typically brings increased consumption. Add up the sports-summer in Europe, we might be in for a busy period!   To my colleagues at work and all on the road. I hope for a dynamic summer.
