Throwback to last week's Grand Prix ACF AutoTech Finale! What a day and what an event. Big thank you to the organisers Automobile Club de France and the Automobile Club from ESSEC Business School and the whole jury of ACF members and industry experts from Peugeot, Renault Group, FORVIA, Plastic Omnium, Fidal, MOTUL and Credit Agricole Consumer Finance as well as a big thank you to Richard de Cabrol! We are thrilled to see the automotive industry evolving and bringing in exciting innovations and entrepreneurs. The network that we have been building thanks to GP ACF Autotech has been amazing, and being distinguished as one of the 3 finalists has enabled even more enriching conversations with decision-makers in the automotive industry. Thanks to some of these conversations we can see that connectivity is essential for the future of automotive. It is clear that for some players, especially Tier-1 suppliers of OEMs dealing with software, perfect internet on the move can mean survival or death of their solution. We have been reflecting on how we see the future of automotive... How will we be using cars in the future? The topic of connectivity is sometimes overlooked because the innovations it enables are not incremental, but rather transformational. This is cool. Auto Trader UK will be sharing brand new research into UK car buyer attitudes towards Chinese brands at this event. We all know about products, batteries, scale, speed, ambitions, but nobody’s yet thought to ask buyers what they think. It’s an untold story and super-important. Three big questions we’ll get into: 1. Does the country of origin (production and brand name) matter? 2. What do UK car buyers think of Chinese car brands and their products? 3. What do Chinese car brands need to know to succeed (and what do the rest need to know to combat)? The early results are ace. Revealing.
What impact will Chinese brands have on your business and opportunity do they represent? Find out on the 11th of December at the NFDA | National Franchised Dealers Association's second annual Driving Automotive event in London, which will explore the growing array of new entrant brands and the impact they will have on retail. Packed with expert speakers from across the Chinese and UK retailing landscape, the event will provide retailers with exclusive insights into the opportunity they represent, how to build lasting and profitable partnerships, and what their arrival means for the current landscape. It will also be an opportunity to meet, and hear first hand from a range of new Chinese brands, including XPENG, Leapmotor, Changan Automobile, Skywell UK, Farizon Auto, and BYD UK on their UK plans, and their retailer partnership ambitions. They'll also have a range of cars on display to interact with. This felt like the start of something, expertly led by Yin Noe. Six brands from China, bringing their product, their brand story and their plans to a room of UK retailers. Each has a point of difference, each has the backing to initiate real change, and each has really, really good cars. For the retailer it's a pretty hard call but one of opportunity, not risk. By 2030 between them these brands could be selling 1 in 6 of all new cars in the UK, and many have the strategies and expertise to manage rapid and healthy growth. Velocity.

What a day! In just 6 hours, I had the privilege of being a host, speaker, and moderator, engaging with senior automotive executives at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground 🏏 A massive thank you to the NFDA | National Franchised Dealers Association and Auto Trader UK 🚘 for making this unforgettable experience possible. 🔎 It was a rare moment to get an up-close lens on the 6 Chinese automotive innovators set to revolutionise the UK & European markets in 2025: BYD, XPENG, GEELY Farizon, Leapmotor, Lotus Cars Europe and Skywell UK. How the French car parc is evolving? On April 25th, GiPA France conducted its ATO Plenary 2024, presenting detailed market research to more than 50 participants from among GiPA France's customers. The session was led by Odette Dantas, GiPA France Deputy Manager, and Xavier Pacilly, GiPA France Country Manager. The plenary revealed that car registrations in France rose by 16% in 2023 compared to 2022, surpassing the average increase of 14% across the EU's G5 nations. Additionally, the French car fleet is experiencing slight growth (+0.5%) and aging, with the average vehicle age reaching 11 years. GiPA predicts that by 2027, the share of alternative energy vehicles in the French car fleet will increase to 17%. Diesel vehicles continue their downward trend since 2019, while gasoline vehicle numbers remain stable. The economic climate has significantly influenced driving behaviors, leading 26% of drivers to reduce their driving as a cost-saving measure. It was a great honour to join a number of key industry stakeholders at the SMMT annual dinner last night, celebrating the UK automotive industry. 2024 has been challenging for the industry as the speed and pace of transition takes effect. We have worked closely with our supply chain in responding to these challenges over the course of the year. To make sure our sector can navigate these headwinds, a clear industrial strategy, led by investment in the domestic supply-chain, will deliver growth, support jobs, help decarbonise the economy and secure a vibrant future for the UK performance car industry. To be a successful car manufacturing nation, you need key technologies located within the domestic supply-chain of your country of manufacture. The UK is home to some of the world’s most admired performance car brands, as well as the majority of Formula 1 racing teams. Building on the unique nature of the UK automotive industry, it is essential that we harness the skills, knowledge and ingenuity of the UK motorsport and performance car industry to create a global, high-performance centre of excellence – attracting the innovative supply chain needed to support such an industry. Investments in a world-class performance car supply chain will also benefit the wider industry in the future - look at the many racing or high-performance innovations that have been adopted into mass market – from enhancing performance to improved safety. Together, we have a golden opportunity for the UK to lead the world as a centre-of-excellence in high-performance vehicle development. #SMMT #McLarenAutomotive

Reports from the SMMT International Automotive Summit in London! 💫 At the SMMT International Automotive Summit, Neil Davies, our Head of Business Development didn’t have a dull moment. One that stood out? An informative interview by BBC’s Justin Webb with Michael Leiters, McLaren Automotive Ltd’s #CEO. Neil returned with a clear understanding of the challenges and goals related to the current developments within the automotive sector in relation to the transition to green technologies. Many thoughts on what will be happening in this area in the future; especially regarding new #automotive technologies and related #qualityassurance. The message from Michael Leiters was clear that the U.K. is currently not ready for the transition to EV Making the U.K. more competitive would help to deliver a clear advantage to secure this transition - this can be supported by delivering a competitive advantage through reducing the cost of quality and delivering improved manufacturing processes. Such discussions are very much aligned to what we do at TheyeQ concerning TheEye System. Our AI-based system enables us to carry out real-time non-invasive inspections, helping lower costs associated with quality problems while increasing output effectiveness. We are all about assisting manufacturers such as McLaren and their supply chain to realise zero defects and thereby improving competitiveness Keep an eye out for further updates as we aim to stretch the limits of quality control and help to improve process effectiveness. #InternationalAutomotiveSummit #AutomotiveIndustry #McLaren #Innovation #QualityAssurance #DigitalTransformation #TheyeQ
