LEAN MANUFACTURING WORKSHOP!! So important to keep learning and growing, and that is exactly what Megan Hibbert and Adam Drinkwater have been doing this week!! Megan is our Business Services Manager and Adam is our Production Manager. The SEQ Manufacturing Hub (GoldCoastManufacturingHub) and Logan City Council hosted a LEAN Manufacturing Workshop for local Businesses which related to productivity improvement concepts, reinforced by the simulation of a series of manual processes (typically representing production or office processes) by using hands-on and 'learning by doing' principles. We are so grateful to our local Council for holding these learning Events, reinforcing our reasoning for keeping our Business in the Logan area. The Logan City Council actively supports businesses and offers support services, grants, and helps connect businesses with valuable resources. During the Workshop, they learnt about:- · Waste reduction · Value stream mapping (VSM) · 5S workplace housekeeping and organisation · Teamwork · Set up reduction · Pull systems (kanbans) · Visual Performance Measurement (VPM) · Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) · Standard work · Focused Improvement Michael Morrow Industrial Engineer at 2Morrow Solutions, presented an interesting and interactive course which Megan Hibbert and Adam Drinkwater are keen to start implementing into our Business. It has been a time of change at B & C over the last few months, new machinery, new layouts and planning, new strategies - and in many ways we feel like a new Business, despite the years that we`ve been here. Join us for our fall Foundations of Lean Certification program staring on 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟒, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒! As the foundation of a Lean Enterprise, standardization sets expectations for process performance and provides the basis for problem‐solving and continuous improvement. In Foundations of Lean Certification led by MRC’s Gene Kaschak, and Janelle Rabenold, participants will learn how to: • Evaluate manufacturing processes to identify value-adding activities and how to find opportunities to eliminate waste that exists within those activities • Apply the concepts of One-Piece Flow, 5S Workplace Organization, Quality at the Source (Mistake-Proofing), Visual Controls, Plant Layout, Cellular Manufacturing, Pull Systems, Kanban, Work Balancing, and Standard Work • Create standards to reduce process variation • Generate one-best-way Job Methods to improve process consistency • Create Job Breakdowns to standardize Job Instruction • Install process checks to sustain process performance • Improve equipment setups/changeovers using Lean methods This course also includes an introduction to Team Building Techniques and individual DiSC Assessments. Lean Management sub-tools #5S Lean Management is the most useful tools which consists of many sub-tools. Today we will go through 5S. 5S is the Japanese 5. These 5S was innovated by Toyota Motor Corporation which are : Sort (seiri (整理)),systemize((seiton (整頓)), Shine (seisō (清掃)), Standardize (seiketsu (清潔)), and Sustain (shitsuke (躾)). Let us go for each S in more details: S1  refer to Sort which mean to reformulate of what is needed and what is not needed. S2 refer to Systemize/Set in order/ Stabilize basically is to reorganize of what is needed. S3 refer to Shine and it refer to do the housekeeping of the workplace and inspect the work area. S4 refer to Standardized by formatting a regular timely procedures for cleaning and maintenance. S5 refer to Sustain which mean is to repeat S1, S2, S3, S4 continually.
