NIL & Athlete Development| Connecting Potential & Purpose To Drive Meaningful Impact Through Sport| Consultant| Advisor| Speaker
When people ask me what I do, and I share that I work in #NIL I find myself amused by the wide range of opinions folks have on the topic. The answers are all over the place, most informed by the narratives online, in the media, or their antiquated thoughts about what college athletics used to be... There is a growing community of folks in similar #NIL roles around the country, doing a great job of wearing the multiple hats that this job requires. Depending on the expectations of your department, these titles/descriptions could never outline all that the job asks of you (rarely any athletics job does 😂) From compliance, student-athlete development, fundraising, sponsorships, content creation, trademark & licensing, marketing, event management, and a consultant to all the "NIL Startups" building their business based off of our insight we freely offer...many of us are asked to be a "Swiss Army Knife" within the department. Considering that, we have a perspective on #NIL that few hold, and unfortunately that perspective isn’t always considered in all the impactful decisions that are being made around us. I've learned a ton over these 9 months in this role, broadening my understanding and appreciation of the work we do in college athletics. I'm excited for what lies ahead, both in this role and in college athletics. This volatility and uncertainty presents an OPPORTUNITY for collaboration, innovation and creativity that we haven't had to exercise. What a great opportunity for us to rethink EVERYTHING... and to include progressive and forward thinking practitioners to the table that bring new thoughts about what lies ahead. "Faith and fear both demand you believe in something you cannot see. You choose." Challenge--> OPPORTUNITY #NIL #CollegeSports #LinkedInSports #SportsBiz

The Olympics bring tremendous sports achievement and inspiration! But did you know... there's an extensive network of sports industries that support all types of athletes, teams and leagues, everyday? Many of today's sports executives hail from Gettysburg College. And networking, through the Gettysburg Network, is all about teamwork—on their "Path to the Pros." Check out my first feature article for Gettysburg College magazine, in their new summer issue: https://lnkd.in/eYYYGQuR

https://lnkd.in/geyPmpEd Attention basketball fans! Indianapolis, the host city for #NBA All-Star 2024, is a must-visit destination for enthusiasts of the sport. While the city boasts a vibrant sports culture and rich basketball history, there are limited tourist attractions in Indianapolis specifically related to the NBA. One of the main attractions for NBA fans is the Bankers Life Fieldhouse, home of the Indiana Pacers and host to numerous NBA games and events. However, the arena lacks any significant historical or cultural significance, making it a rather underwhelming attraction for non-sports enthusiasts. Another notable NBA-related attraction is the NCAA Hall of Champions, showcasing the history and achievements of college basketball. However, for those solely interested in the NBA, the focus on college basketball may not be as appealing. While Indianapolis may be hosting the NBA All-Star 2024, visitors seeking a more diverse and engaging tourist experience may find themselves disappointed by the lack of NBA-focused attractions in the city. Nonetheless, Bankers Life Fieldhouse and the NCAA Hall of Champions are worth a visit for basketball fans.

It was just a matter of time. In the ever-changing landscape of sports business, I think most of us are not surprised by anything these days. No matter where you stand on the subject of NIL and the transfer portal, I think we can all agree we're living through one of the greatest shifts in the history of college sports. So yesterday's situation in Vegas, while certainly newsworthy, was simply the first of what will most likely be several scenarios that occur until the Wild West Era of NIL comes to an end. As we move forward in this new world, one area that cannot be stressed enough is the need for qualified, credible talent to stand up and help create a healthy, equitable college sports ecosystem that is sustainable. Now, some of these companies may not even exist yet. But some are out there and Advance Sports is here to help shine a light on them. Jake Rosenberg and The Athlete Group are doing everything they can to help solve some of the biggest issues in sports, including ensuring college players understand how to properly evaluate an agent and when to be vigilant about potential landmines that could arise when making important decisions about their futures. We all want principled, smart people to help shape the future of college sports. And now is the time to step up to the plate if you want to be part of the solution. #AdvanceSports #NILCareers

Anyone who's ever encountered me has undoubtedly noticed my passion for college sports. In fact, this summer, I've made a point of wearing a UCF polo to the office for my internship at least once a week. It's become a great conversation starter, allowing me to explain why my shirt reads "Citronauts" instead of the more familiar "Knights." If you asked me what I've been doing in my spare time over the past two weeks, the honest answer would be immersing myself in EA Sports College Football 25. From an outsider's perspective, it might seem like just another video game. However, for those familiar with its history, it's clear how much this game means to college football fans everywhere. For decades, college athletes dedicated their time, bodies, and personal lives to their sport without financial compensation. Look at the transformation of Texas A&M's stadium before and after Johnny Manziel. Athletes were prohibited from profiting off their name, image, and likeness, including appearances in commercials, jerseys, and video games. This led to an eleven-year hiatus for the NCAA college football game series. As a UCF fan, it was disheartening to see Donald De La Haye (Deestroying) lose his eligibility for accepting compensation for his YouTube content. This incident sparked a much-needed conversation about athlete compensation across major sports media. The subsequent reforms allowing athletes to profit from their NIL were a direct result of this momentum. For years, universities have reaped financial benefits from their athletes' performances. Did UCF fans flock to games solely for the food, which is amazing by the way, or were they captivated by the electric atmosphere created by players like McKenzie Milton and the 2017 National Champion UCF Knights (yes, we are national champions, according to the record books and our stadium banner). Despite the ongoing debate surrounding NIL, I remain a staunch supporter of our athletes. Their dedication and talent have contributed significantly to the success and revenue of alma maters everywhere. #GKCO #NIL #collegefootball
