Today is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day—a day that serves as a critical reminder of the devastating impact fentanyl is having on our communities. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid up to 100 times more potent than morphine, and its presence is becoming more pervasive across the country. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of fentanyl, especially the risk it poses to our loved ones. The reality is that fentanyl can be found in counterfeit pills, street drugs, and even unknowingly mixed into other substances—putting everyone at risk, regardless of age, background, or location. For those outside my immediate work in law enforcement, I urge you to take a moment today to educate yourselves, your families, and your friends about the lethal risks associated with fentanyl. The more we know, the better equipped we are to protect those we care about. Please consider sharing this message with your network.
