Critical listening skills are essential in communication to discern between genuine and manipulative messages. As ANTONY KAMAU highlighted, without these skills, one can easily fall victim to emotional appeals used by skilled manipulators. Critical listening helps in evaluating the credibility of the speaker and the validity of the information presented, ensuring informed decision-making and effective communication.
This is what I said in 2022 when some politicians resorted to tears to delude naive Kenyan voters. " A good orator is defined by their ability to effectively employ the appeals of logos, ethos, and pathos. In contrast, a skilled manipulator often relies heavily on pathos, the emotional appeal, to influence others. Without critical listening skills, one can easily fall victim to such tactics. This is why some individuals, having lost their credibility, resort to emotional displays like tears. I am the least likely to be manipulated." Today they are crying foul play after casting sympathy votes!

This quote suggests that public relations often involves shaping or controlling information to serve a particular agenda, rather than fostering genuine transparency. It implies that PR practices prioritize promotion, manipulation, and sometimes deceit over open communication. The quote implies skepticism towards the integrity of public relations, suggesting that it rarely aims for an unbiased exchange of information but rather seeks to influence perceptions or hide inconvenient truths. #Quote_of_the_Day #PR4U Retrieved from : https://lnkd.in/gevBF8Dx
“Public relations is at best promotion or manipulation, at worst evasion and outright deception. What it is never about is a free flow of information.” – Heather Brooke #Quote_of_the_Day #PR4U Retrieved from : https://lnkd.in/gr7Rek_g

Founding Attorney at MST Law; Focusing on Personal Injury Law (Car Accidents, Slip-and-Falls, Wrongful Death); Taxi Industry Attorney
They say BigLaw has the proverbial “golden handcuffs.” But in recent months, BigLaw has also become a metal clasp on a person’s heart. I have been told by various BigLaw sources that advocates for justice in Palestine are silenced and retaliated against swiftly if they speak out. There is no free speech when it comes to this issue. BigLaw firms are even broadcasting this publicly to chill law students' speech. For example, Sullivan & Cromwell, a prestigious AmLaw 50 Law Firm, issued a cryptic statement that it was “closely” following protests at colleges and that it would be “extremely vigilant” in its background checks of prospective hirees to ensure S&C does not hire anyone who advocated for Palestinian rights or divestment from Israel. Remember: Israel is a country that Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and B’Tselem–one of the largest Israeli Human Rights organizations–have concluded is an apartheid state that routinely and systematically violates indigenous Palestinians’ human rights. Apparently, you could have participated in the January 6 insurrection, or one of the many other protests organized by supremacist hate groups that exist in this country, and still be fit for legal practice at S&C. But advocating for Palestinian rights is beyond the pale of decency. It is a sad day when law firms—the organizations that should be the bastions of free speech—are now the ones silencing it. https://lnkd.in/gXuChXJv
