Happy World Youth Skills Day! 🤹♀️ Did you know that success in your professional life largely depends on your family and skills learned as a child? Today, as we celebrate the importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, ERC grantee Pedro Carneiro from UCL reminds us of the urgency of investing in children to make sure they acquire the vital skills to secure better jobs and achieve success in life. His research on family dynamics and expenditure in impoverished communities reveals that without a solid foundation of skills acquired in childhood, it becomes more difficult to address skill deficiencies and their consequences in terms of (un)employment in adulthood. In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly designated July 15th as World Youth Skills Day This annual event facilitates dialogue among youth, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, employers, policymakers, and development partners. There are to far to many youth, male and female, unable to get meaningful work due to an inability to access education or a workplace willing to teach them the skills they need. I have heard so many older adults say that youth do not want to work. I do wonder.....how many learned their skills on the job but are now unwilling to teach the future generation? This problem is worse for those youth who are displaced or homeless as they have little to no chance of even getting the education needed to lay a foundation to gain those skills. If you are an employer only looking for that candidate with the education, and the experience using the skills needed for the job.....perhaps consider hiring somebody who has one or the other and help them gain what they are lacking. Or if there is a youth outreach centre, in your area with youth interested in your company or industry.....consider sponsoring them. So today, July 15th, let us recognize the struggle that youth and young adults face in finding work, gaining skills, and (sometimes) gaining an education. https://lnkd.in/dPvASJsZ Today we celebrate World Youth Skills Day! We are happy as an SME industry, we invested in a SWISS VET program in 2014, hosted Anwesha Foundation at Plot 1B, GIDC Phase 2, Vitthal Udyognagar, provided the infrastructure, trainers & environment to digest the high quality program. Having started the institute in March 2015, we kept learning, adapting, digesting the pedagogy from SkillSonics who facilitated the Swissmem program in India. We are proud of our team at Rhino Machines Pvt Ltd to have participated in the capacity building of youth, taking school dropouts and marginal community children, investing in their learning, assuring them employment, do all that the purpose of this day may look at. BUT perhaps, 2024 we may see the last of the batches pass out from the Skill Development Centre as possibly the education ecosystem and industry have not found the centre worth investing into. Certification and quantity (numbers) take precedence over quality of learning outcome, pedagogy in education has been given very low importance. However, the knowledge is available, should someone find this worthwhile, and when we may realise that without the quality multi-skilled youth manufacturing may not flourish as much as we may like it to be.

Today July 15th is World Youth Skills Day. This day emphasizes the importance of providing young people with the skills they need to succeed and create positive change in today's world and in their future. It highlights offering accessible and inclusive learning opportunities that bridge the gap between education and real-world job requirements. 🤔 While equipping youth with foundational, transferable, digital, entrepreneurial, technical, and green skills is essential…💞 ✨We must go further by ensuring equitable promotion and access to knowledge. This will help youth and their communities stay informed about opportunities as they arise. ✨Additionally, it is crucial to incorporate youth voices in discussions of policy and practice development, implementation, and evaluation. As those closest to the issues are best positioned to provide effective solutions. “Age is foolish and forgetful when it underestimates youth.” – J.K. Rowling “We have a powerful potential in our youth, and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power toward good ends.” – Mary McLeod Bethune “Our youth have an abundance of skills. It’s time we recognize and uplift them. Adults often complain about a lack of resources, but our youth are our greatest resource. So, let’s cultivate their gifts now for a more sustainable future.” – Ericka Hill #YouthSkillsDay #GlobalSustsinability #UpliftYouthVoices #LiveLearnandExplore
