The Lumina Intelligence - Food & Drink Convenience Tracking Programme Quarterly Download for Q4 2023 has been released. Some of the key messages for the quarter are: Consumer confidence has seen a positive year-on-year increase of +20 points, reaching -22. Combined with a decrease in inflation and the fifth warmest December on record, shoppers now enjoy greater discretionary income compared to recent years during the cost-of-living crisis. Core shoppers are drawn to Convenience via Top Up missions (+2.1ppts Planned, +0.9ppts Distress). The Lumina Intelligence - Food & Drink Eating & Drinking Out Panel snapshot for December 2023 paints an improving market picture. Dinner occasions bounced back year-on-year, increasing share by +6.1ppts. Frequent train strikes in the same period last year hindered dinner occasions as consumers feared challenging journeys home. Minimal industrial action in the most recent period enabled Christmas parties to go ahead, leading to a higher proportion of dinner occasions and restaurants seeing the highest growth in occasion share this year.
