Comprised of one in five US residents, rural America is no monolith—each community faces unique health challenges and priorities that vary greatly from urban health issues and reflect distinct differences in cultural, social, economic, and geographic characteristics. SPH's Timothy Callaghan is tackling these issues as an editor and contributing author of Rural Healthy People 2030, an edited book volume that is published once per decade to examine the most pressing health concerns of residents in rural communities. “We believe that our findings will be useful to policy leaders in identifying health policy areas in particular need of policymaking and funding support. We think they will also be useful to health experts in tracking how rural health priorities have evolved over time, and help them to identify areas in need of further research.” Learn more ➡️ http://spr.ly/6045TkHGT

Ill health reduces political participation and shifts political support towards populist and radical ideas. Yesterday’s plenary at European Health Forum Gastein explored the interlinkages of democracy and health in shaping our European societies. Looking forward to this afternoon’s session on democracy and the demographic transition. #EHFG2024 #YFG2024

Climate-related disparities impact the health of some of the most vulnerable among us. In a recent Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention researchers found that unprecedented heat waves can affect all people, but some are more sensitive to the effects of heat, including children and adults with underlying health conditions, pregnant women, and outdoor workers. The Alliance for Community Engagement – Climate and Health (ACE-CH) promotes sustainable change in communities facing health disparities due to climate stressors like heat waves. The Mountain West ACE-CH Hub works with rural and urban focal communities in Colorado to understand how communities are experiencing climate stressors, such as heat waves, and identify opportunities to advance climate justice.
