Back in February, I ran a Spartan race at the Dodgers Stadium with my boys. If you're not familiar with Spartan races, they're known for their challenging obstacles, and this one was no exception. With 20 obstacles, some easy and some more difficult like the rope climb, I trained for months to prepare. If you fail an obstacle, they make you do 15 burpees, which was tough.
At the beginning of the race, I started by bear crawling my way from the ground to the top of the stadium. About halfway up, I thought, "why the hell did I sign up for this?!" It was kind of like when I started my company, Empire Technologies Group Inc. back in 2005. At first, things seemed insurmountable, and I questioned my decision.
But, about midway through the race, I started feeling better as I got into the stands and had some great views of the stadium. However, that feeling didn't last long as I turned corners and faced 7-foot walls, monkey bars, and rings. It's like the story of our company - as soon as you feel like you're making it, here comes a new obstacle!
In the end, I failed two of the 20 obstacles and paid the price with burpees. It reminded me of the cost we must pay in business when we miss the mark. However, finishing was great because they gave us some cool-looking medals and a cool t-shirt, but more importantly, the pride we felt in overcoming the obstacles was priceless.
Overall, it was a great experience, and I'm looking forward to doing it again. It's like in business - you face challenges, but it's how you overcome them that counts. #SpartanRace #OvercomingObstacles #BusinessLessons #empiretechs Pedro Estrada
