Making an appreciation post for my favorite duo at Bestwork Industries for the Blind, Inc. Despite my internship wrapping up, Lauren Scarpa and Krysti Plester (Peitz) invited me out to a yummy lunch yesterday. It was a great way to re-connect! More than just lunch — they offered valuable advice that I’ll hold close to my heart as I start work next week. Here are the takeaways: Ask questions the right way — Questions are great, but you have to do it tastefully. Jot down questions, dedicate a specific time and place to ask questions, and make sure to take notes (to avoid re-asking a question later). Offer solutions, not just complaints — No workplace is 100% perfect. We’re taught to be “tough” and deal with it. But, why not offer a solution? Or, at least show that you’ve been thinking/brainstorming on the topic. This way, you’ll be seen as a problem-solver and not just a sore complainer. Show interest — Obvious but often neglected. Show interest in the work, the company, and the people. Learn/familiarize yourself on how to do stuff, even tasks that aren’t directly related to your role. You’ll use this skill set to tackle and overcome many obstacles in the future. Thank you to Lauren and Krysti for the great advice. Best of luck to everyone who started or will be starting work soon! #advice #career #postgrad #intern #marketing #appreciation #lunch
