Co Founder @ Tech Sales Mentors | We've helped 100+ SDRs land at top tech companies in less than 2 months. Reach out if you want to be next!
We reject most of the applicants who come to us for a job in tech sales. Here are the 5 dumbest reasons I have heard from people on why they want a tech sales role: 1 - The laptop - Yes, really. 2 - Have time to keep up their side hustle. 3 - Get a cushy remote job. (It is not THAT easy). 4 - For the money (and no other reason). 5 - They think sales is easy. (Not for most people). The 10% of applicants we do accept know: 1 - The laptop is tracked and monitored lol. 2 - That getting good and crushing your quota takes time. 3 - A remote role has its own challenges. 4 - The money is only a tool, not the end result. 5 - Getting awesome at sales means wanting the best for your prospect.

This gets me fired up! I absolutely love to see this. One thing that truly baffled me when I went from non-SaaS to SaaS was that I kept experiencing this weird invisible barrier. I was constantly told “you don’t have experience in SaaS” or “we’re looking for people with Salesforce experience.” I quickly learned that this barrier primarily consisted of gatekeepers that went directly from high school, to university, to SaaS. That’s right, they had never sold anything outside of tech. Tech was their first “real job.” As a seller, if you truly understand the product, the customer, and the problems it solves, that’s all you need. Right? (Right) The administrative stuff (like Salesforce) is all ancillary. If the drive is there, they’ll figure it out. Period. Let’s see more of this. A special shoutout goes to the guy who gave me my first gig in SaaS - Thanks Matt Hyde! #sales #saas #softwaresales #techsales #dentaltechnology
I hired 2 sales reps at Luminous who had NO experience in tech. Or SAAS. Or B2B sales in general. They didn't have cold calling experience, or optimized Linkedin profiles. They did, however, have sales experience. But in a completely different industry. In fact, they were some of the best in their field. I took a bet on the fact that if these two could hustle in one industry, they would do so in another. I wasn't wrong. They've created over a dozen opportunities in the last week, bringing in better results than any other tech sales hire I've ever made. So founders and HR, don't rule someone out because they don't have the EXACT experience you're looking for. Look for: - Creativity - Good Attitude - The willingness to just figure 👏 it 👏 out 👏 You'll be surprised at the results. cc Logan Holgate Thomas Morrow

Nobody said that landing your first remote tech sales job would be easy... Which is why so many people will never stand a chance to actually get one. After my first week of being on the job hunt, I've realized that in order to get the job, you have to do the job. This includes everything from: 1. Prospecting and building lists 2. Cold outreach via phone and email 3. Social selling on LinkedIn 4. Time management 5. Objection handling 6. Negotiation 7. Closing Sounds like a sales job? That's because it is. I'm working on selling myself to companies and building my schedule the same way I would working for them as an SDR. What might be different about your schedule that allows you to be more effective as a salesperson?

If you’re a remote sales rep & you’re not making great money… Here’s what you need to do: Start by measuring 3 things: • How long you’ve been in the game • How good you are at sales • The actual opportunity you’re in Starting out, you need to optimize for #2 and #3 More specifically, I think you need to focus on #3 (the opportunity) There are TONS of entry points for sales Pick one where the new people make decent money (Decent money is relative) Whatever that is for you… pick it Once you’ve found that, you should then focus on #2 (getting better at sales) The vehicle you’re in and how good you are at sales is 100% up to you Yes, you may be inclined to interact with people in a certain way… But sales is a muscle You CAN get better at it by practicing Then lastly… Your time in the game This is where you see the exponential growth and how much money you can make If you pick a good vehicle and max out your skillset… All you need to do is keep going. From here, the only thing stopping you from making more money is the offer you’re on. If you have any questions about this Let me know below
