Oh, how they've grown! The seven-acres of green roof at Javits Center are home to hundreds of baby herring gulls. This morning, Javits employees assisted the NYC Bird Alliance in banding some of the nestlings so they can track their movement and success over the next 30 years as part of an ongoing initiative to revitalize the population. #sustainability   “The data we’re collecting here suggests [the green roof at Javits] is a suitable nesting habitat that rivals a natural terrestrial nesting habitat so that’s really important going forward for future green roofs and future herring gull colonies,” said Myles Davis, Senior Manager of Green Infrastructure at NYC Bird Alliance. “This is the largest herring gull colony in New York City so it’s an example of how our infrastructure can support this species that’s in decline.”
