The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in partnership with NACCHO, has developed a free course for post-overdose outreach team members and first responders. First responders can earn continuing education units (CEUs) by enrolling in and taking the full course (5 modules) on trauma-informed approaches for post-overdose outreach teams here: https://bit.ly/4dhmohY This is an online course that aims to equip first responders and post-overdose outreach teams with the background and tools to implement a trauma-informed response when interacting with a person who has experienced an overdose. The approach taught in this course can help improve interactions between teams and persons experiencing overdose and can help team members understand how trauma can impact the people they serve and other people that they interact with in their roles.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cavities are the most common yet preventable chronic disease among children, affecting one in four preschoolers and being twice as likely to occur in children from low-income families. In honor of National Children’s Dental Health Month, we wanted to highlight some of the work CHPA is doing to help close gaps in oral health disparities. This Congress, our Government Affairs team is continuing to advocate for lawmakers to empower Americans by expanding the use of Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) to purchase oral care products such as toothbrushes, water flossers, and anti-cavity toothpaste. ⚠️ According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 35,000 young children need emergency care annually due to ingesting medications left within their reach. 🔹Medications, especially chewable tablets and syrups, come in bright colors and sweet flavors that resemble candy. 🔹Some ways to keep kids safe: ✔️Safe storage: Store all medications out of sight and reach of children. This includes cabinets with child-proof locks. ✔️Clear communication: Never refer to medicine as candy. Explain to your child that medicine helps them get better, but it's not candy. ✔️Separate routines: Avoid taking medicine in front of your child, especially if they associate it with treats. #up_and_away
