Hey there, friends! Let me take you back in time to one of the most exciting chapters of my life – my internship days. Imagine a young, eager engineering student in Newcastle upon Tyne, living right next to an industrial hub. That was me, stepping into GE Oil & Gas /Wellstream for my internship. It was like a dream come true! 🏭 My official title was a bit fancy – materials and production engineering coordinator. But let's not get bogged down in titles. What truly mattered was the incredible journey of learning and growth that awaited me. I was diving headfirst into the world of Flexible Risers & Pipelines. So, what did I learn from this adventure? Well, here are some golden nuggets: 🚀 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Your internship isn't just about tasks; it's a treasure trove of experiences waiting to be discovered. 🌐𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤, 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤, 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤: Connect with everyone you meet – colleagues, mentors, and fellow interns. You never know where these connections might lead you. 🔍 𝐁𝐞 𝐚 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐫: Real-world challenges are like puzzles; they challenge you to think outside the box and come up with ingenious solutions. 📝 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤: Feedback is your best friend on this journey. It's how you fine-tune your skills and grow. 🌟 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬: The energy industry is ever-evolving. Keep that fire of curiosity burning bright. I am the tail-end of my internship at SLB and it really did open my eyes to a completely new world that I only used to read about. So far, it has been colorful: working on complex projects, designing fluids and learning how equipment work from intelligent experts that are so down-to-earth and always answer your questions patiently I can never forget about my experience here 💙
Those days seem so long ago
These are very helpful internship insights for all students to read Jacqueline Chinwe Stephen
I can actually resonate with all of these golden nuggets shared! Thanks Jacqueline Chinwe Stephen 👏
Hello Jacqueline, Great write up I do have a question though. Do you have general tips for getting internships with top energy companies as an undergrad in NIGERIA both local and international companies.
Nice initiative. Thanks for sharing
Wicked!
You such a beautiful lady everyone would love to hold hand with

11moThese are very cogent points. Coming from Nigeria and working for one of the largest power distribution companies (Ikeja Electric ) I had some experience in power distribution, but my internship at CenterPoint Energy opened my eyes to a completely new world in the power sector. From policies and standards, planning and execution of projects, innovative development that has helped shaped transmission and distribution of power. The learning curve had a great impact on me. Networking can never be over emphasized, sometimes it's more than what you know but who you know. Never stop asking questions: Never be ashamed to own up to what you don't know and ask questions about them to help you learn. Always be ready to volunteer: Opportunities would present themselves and you should be ready to put yourself out there (as an intern, you'll always have help). Be ready to learn while executing. I will forever be grateful for tge opportunity I had to Intern with CenterPoint Energy it paved the way for my present career path.
