The Gulf in Paris 2024 Ticket Prices While the organizers of the Paris Olympics have set out to make them the “People’s Games”, the availability of affordable tickets has been a topic of discussion in the run-up to the games. Here is a huge gulf in ticket prices for the Olympics, with the most expensive tickets for the finals in Athletics, Swimming and Basketball priced at €980, which is more than 40 times the price of the cheapest tickets available for each sport. At the other end of the scale, some events top out at €24, which mostly applies to outdoor events that can also be watched for free along public roads, along the Seine, or – if you happen to be in Tahiti – at the famous Teahupo’o wave. When Did the 2024 Summer Olympic Sports Become Olympic? The 2024 Summer Olympic games will consist of 45 different sport categories. Many of these sports are original to the first Olympic games of 1896, but many new sports have been added in the years since. Breakdancing is new to 2024. For a sport to be Olympic, it must be approved by the International Olympic Committee and often sports were “demonstrated” first at the games before becoming official. Some sports were dropped and then added back in later such as golf, which was removed after the 1900 games and reinstated in 2016. Some sports had name changes over the years. Two sports were cancelled in 1896 due to extreme weather (rowing and sailing) and only two Olympic sports still involve animals (horses): modern pentathlon and the equestrian events. Higher, Stronger…Slower? Why the Paris Olympic Pool Has a Problem The Paris Games has produced a surprising lack of world records so far. Some think it may be because the pool is unusually shallow The pool constructed on the customary site of a rugby pitch measures 2.2 meters deep. At recent Olympics, the pool has always been around 3 meters deep—a difference of nearly 3 feet. To understand why that matters, it’s important to remember that swimming isn’t just a dynamic exercise. It’s also an exercise in fluid dynamics. Every movement swimmers make with their hands and feet creates small waves that rebound off the bottom of the pool. No movement has more potential for waves than swimmers’ initial dive into the water. The shallower the pool, the more those waves ricochet back to the swimmers on the surface, creating a more turbulent aquatic environment that isn’t conducive to top speeds. In the future, pools as shallow as the one at these Games won’t be allowed. World Aquatics enacted a minimum depth of 2.5 meters for swimming and water polo in January 2023. When Paris had its bid accepted for the Olympics in 2017 and the swimming facility was approved, regulations allowed for a pool of 2.2 meters.

World Aquatics allows Russia’s participation in Bosnia and Herzegovina under national flag "The only Russian athletes who will be able to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games are those who are registered as Individual Neutral Athletes," the statement reads MOSCOW/ The world’s governing body of swimming sports, World Aquatics, will allow Russian athletes to take part in the upcoming international competition next month in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the organization’s press office announced to TASS in a statement on Friday. The competition is slated to be held in the city of Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina in late April. Vladimir Salnikov, the president of the Russian Swimming Federation (RSF), said earlier that there would be no restrictions on Russia’s national swimmers at the event and they would be allowed to compete under the country's national flag and colors. "This competition is not organized by World Aquatics," the statement reads. "The only Russian athletes who will be able to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games are those who are registered as Individual Neutral Athletes." "Any Individual Neutral Athletes who compete at this event, or other events, would be able to set a qualifying time for Paris," the statement added. The 2024 Summer Olympic Games will be hosted by the French capital of Paris between July 26 and August 11. In March 2023, World Aquatics (FINA until December 2022) ruled to bar Russia and Belarus from any future FINA-sanctioned international swimming events.
