❄ Expedition update… With a mixture of good conditions and tougher, slower days, Sam continues to make good progress towards the pole. He's now on the ice shelf, saying: "I thought the snow conditions would improve once I got into the ice shelf but they’re still not great with this beast of a pulk." He added: "I thought I could see the mountains in the distance but they were two very still clouds that stayed in the same position on the horizon for three hours. Mixed with a very strange high pitched hum that went on for about 20 minutes at 2am makes me wonder… am I alone? 👽" By Friday, conditions on the ice shelf were more favourable, with firm packed snow and just the odd soft patch. After suffering with a bad ankle, Sam said yesterday: "Really dull weather today so difficult on the eyes but decent surface conditions so I think I covered a good distance (still need to work it out). The ankle is getting stronger so I’m hopeful that is the last physical issue I have." On the weight of his pulk, Sam said: "I think it’ll be at least another 10 days until I start to see distance progression from my pulk getting lighter. It is still heavier than the start weights of pretty much every other expedition, so still some weight to lose! The key for now is consistency and remain physically well until the magic weight tipping point!" #antarctica #southpole #expedition #resilience #trek #ski #skitouring #crosscountryskiing #worldrecord
