Thank you Faculty of Engineering for inviting me to be a panelist! Key takeaways include: 1. University will never fully prepare you for “the real world”… The Faculty develops students to be problem solvers and critical thinkers. They give the students the skills they need to excel in the workforce. A lot of what you need to know will be taught to you on the job. 2. If you're interested in starting your own business, find a way to make people’s lives easier and be passionate about creating that solution. Find individuals who inspire you and learn from their mistakes, gain mentorship. Start small and take your time. There are a lot of great start-up opportunities in Halifax, research what support is available. 3. Your inspiration may be your parents, family, or family friend. But it can also be someone who is two years ahead of you, those two years can make all the difference. You don't need to have your whole road map figured out, as long as you can see your next step.
A big thanks to Alexandra MacDonald, Jade Farr, EIT, Amir Aali, B.Eng, EIT and Kirk D. for participating in our panel and sharing their experience and insight. Thanks to all of the Engineering alumni and students who joined us for our first Engineering Young Alumni & Networking Panel Event at the Melda Murray Student Centre. We hope to see you again soon!

10moGreat advice! #1 was something that resonated with me in the early years of my career and something I also used to share with upcoming and new grads.
